New Format Debuts Today For 93.3 FM

Omaha's newest country music station debuts today at 3 p.m. on 93.3 FM (formerly "Legendary American Country: US 93.3 FM")

According to a press release sent to Omaha-area advertisers, the new "Twister 93.3" is the newest incarnation of Clear Channel's "Country Combo" strategic positioning, designed to serve the 18-to-34-year-old listener.

"Twister is the first place to hear new country music from Cari (sic) Underwood, Keith Urban, Craig Morgan, Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, Brad Paisley and more," reads the release.

In the most recent Arbitron ratings, the former KHUS (93.3 FM) was listed near the bottom among all listeners, aged 12-and-older. Another Clear Channel country-formatted station, KXKT, ranked third among all listeners in the same ratings period (summer 2007). KHUS made its debut in October 2005.

Why is CC compeating with itself? Do they really need two FM country stations?

More country?? I think I'd rather listen to the howling wind they have on there.

oh god, you all act like it is the devils music! get out a little and expand your listening ears! Yeeeeeeee-Hawwwww~!

And they misspelled Carrie Underwood's name in the release? Nice to see who's left in the building knows their format...

"...was listed near the bottom among all listeners, aged 12-and-under." What the heck? Is that really the demographic most advertisers care about?

I have a gut feeling that both the press release and the 12 and under line was placed on this blog because somebody might have been in a hurry..

That said..

They should have went rock with the new station.. Rock on the radio in Omaha blows.

So now where does an Omaha

The day that Kenny Chesney takes off his hat-of-the-day and exposes his bald head to the world, I will listen to some country music.

IDEA OF THE WEEK FOR JOURNAL BROADCASTING: Want to find a way to double and even triple the ratings on 590? Return to Classic Country.

Funny how the blog says that 93.3 ratings were "near" the bottom. BS590 ratings ARE at the bottom. NO place to go but up! Perrault would be well suited to give the farm updates for the farmers as long as he doesn't start any rumors that CORN will be going down next week.

Creighton basketball, classic country, and farm updates without the spin!!!!! (Take that Roger Flemmer!)

I agree... that's one crazy demographic. Those 12-and-under kids sure have a lot of buying power!! If that's the audience they're aiming for, look forward to ads for Matchbox cars, country Barbie, Pampers, and Care Bears...

When I had 93.3 on earlier today it was still the heartbeat.

Please, please tell me that with the new incarnation the pre-recorded stupid stuff they played between songs will be gone. Puh-leeze.

I enjoyed the music selection on US 93.3, but can anyone at Clear Channel make the connection of no DJs + minimal local news/weather = low ratings??? Hello???

Unfortunately the 93.3 signal doesn't blanket the omaha metro vey well. Many formats have come & gone . Its a tough frequency to sell.
Good Luck.

Who listens to the radio?
Who listens to the radio?
That's what I'd like to know
Who listens to the radio?

Unfortunately, Arbitron ratings outside of the standard 12-and-older demographic are about as hard to come by as a shutout by the Blackshirts.

5:03 PM...I agree. Here's a title for a farm show for Matt:

"The Pig Show with Matt Perrault - with special appearances by Travis Justice"

Pig Snorts 590....farm talk without the SPIN!

Quote "Why is CC compeating with itself? Do they really need two FM country stations?"

I think this is part of an stunt to regroup their line up. I bet they will use the better music on 933 to make money until they either sell it off and by a better station like 95.1 or 102.7 or try to get reline up their other stations 2 country, 1 oldies and one 80s rock does not make sense.
mabey they will slowly become 1 country, 1 alt rock, 1 oldies and 1 bob or joefm but for now they need quick cash

i don't think that makes sense "11:13"... 95.1 and 102.7 are inferior signals to 93.3 and will be even when they're broadcasting from their new towers... 102.7 may be better with their omaha tower... but this all comes down to clear channel owning country in this market and knowing that they can make more money than they're currently making with Kat by running a low-cost new country format for the 18-24 female audience.

Hey, welcome to deregulated media. Everyone who votes for Lee Terry, George Bush, Clinton and the rest of the career politicians advances nothing but what the folk who pay for those guys to get elected wants them to advance. Clear Channel pumps cash into their PAC's and gets their lobbyists to keep Congress in its pocket. The Telecommunications Bill of 1995, written by Congress and signed by Bill Clinton created the system that allows CC to "compete with itself". Now, the media companies are asking for even looser restrictions. Keep electing these shills, and eventually we'll be listening to commercial jingles as entertainment.

Living between Omaha and Lincoln I can choose from probably a half dozen country stations with this same new format. I WAS a loyal listener with the classic country format. I am a 40 year old male -that should make me a prime "target" for their advertisers. BRING BACK THE CLASSICS - I CAN HEAR THIS STUFF ALL OVER THE RADIO!!! Meanwhile I guess I'll be listenening to my cd's with no commercials!

How the hell do you guys manage to bring my name up on this topic? I must be the most popular guy on here....that - or all you 1620 employees who wish you could go back to the days when you had no competition need to get a life.

The obession with me is a little creepy...why don't you all say who you work for so we all know your agenda....I'm not a coward...but this blog is full of 'em. Thanks all the attention but I don't need it from frustrated media people.

Matt:

As a loyal listener to your show, I have to say that I get a kick out of how many people say they don't listen to your show and then turn around and bash you. Shows that someone must be listening. Keep going with the controversy. You are doing a great job in this listener's opinion.

Matt Perrault, I assure you there are people that dislike you who have never even seen the inside of a radio or TV station.

I'm one of them. Crybabies have never really made my heart flutter and swoon.

Quick story...we had a kid in 5th grade named Ricky. He was the "weak link," if you will. By about the third day, we learned that if you so much as looked funny at him, he would blow up and respond. It became kind of a game for all of us.

Apparently, Ricky grew up and now works at the lowest rated sports talk station in the entire Midwest.

Might be why people bring him up regularly. Kind of fun to get a response out of the "media."

Note for Matt: I am not a 1620 employee, nor do I know a 1620 employee. And I work for an insurance company in West Omaha, since it seems important to you to know where we work.

Have a nice day.

I think stella has a thing for perrault

i think david does, too!

Maybe because people are deciding what to do with your pathetic radio show Matthew. You are growing tiresome as is your ratings.

Anonymous said...

Yippe, new country, ugh... the old 93.3 was the only thing worth listening to in the Clear Channel family of crap.
time to delete it from my preset.

I have a thing for Matt Perrault? I'm willing to consider that possibility:

That "thing" might be an aching, driving, wanton passion that can only be resolved by sinking my teeth into that forbidden fruit.

Or that "thing" might be I think he's a dork.

Leaning towards the latter.

Anonymous said...

They should never have moved away from the mainstream rock format to begin with...

Anonymous said...

You're right. Much better to keep the sweaty guys with no job. Strip bars and tat shops really can be a profitable land.

Why Matt do you have an obsession with us? Sitting high in your almighty ivory tower of credibility...why would you stoop to converse with us commoners?

We're not worthy! We're not worthy! We're not worthy! We're not worthy! We're not worthy! We're not worthy! We're not worthy!

We all want to go grow up and to live the lavious luxurious lifestyle of a sports talk show host like you Matt! Yyyyoooouuuu'rrrreeeee our HERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt (Ricky)

I honestly have not listened to your show for over 3 months but I have heard enough from before and from posters here to know that you are going nowhere here in the Omaha market. Your paranoia on this blog and other message boards only adds to the fun of the situation you find yourself in.

Hey Perrault,

If you spent more time worrying about improving the quality of your show and less time worrying about what people are saying on this board -- well, your show would still be horrible, but you would have more time to work on your resume for your next job.

And notice that this advice is coming from one of those "cowards" you seem a trifle obsessed with...

And yet you seem "obsessed" with posting every time Matt makes a comment. Hmmm.

I think jeremiah needs to look at the 11:13 post and see that I wrote a station like 102.7 and 95.1 because as far as I know they are the only omaha stations up for sale right now. Besides 93.3 may have an large cover area but its signal strength is proablly the one of the worst on the non com fm dial. It is odd that omaha has no kiss fm or other CC staples but not that suprising. How is kat not new country? So it seems twister is just an money stunt for now.

the new format is boring

They should have live jocks

I like all country music... Were is the "Listen Live" Link???

Omaha needs one more country station like it needs one more day of Matt Perrault on the air. And one more of either is one too many...

Anonymous said...

Bring back the old format, classic country. New Country is a misnomer, should be titled busy Country.

Anonymous said...

Omaha needs a good christian rock station and not just CCM.

I loved the music when it was US93.3, now with the new format and the popular country music you are playing, I will go back to the station I used to have all my radios set at 103.9. This new format you have is not for me or any of my friends which are my age
past 60
