Perrault Admits Wrongdoing In Spreading Rumor

MattSports radio talk show hosts certainly have more latitude than sportswriters, reporters and other journalists. However, Creighton University Athletic Director Bruce Rasmussen thinks afternoon talk show host Matt Perrault overstepped those boundaries Monday when he speculated that Rasmussen would follow former Creighton University men's basketball Coach Dana Altman to Arkansas.

In an e-mail to Perrault that is posted on his blog, Rasmussen writes that Perrault should have contacted him before spreading rumors.

"You drew conclusions that seemed perfectly logical to you. But you were very much in the wrong," Rasmussen wrote. "I was not going to Arkansas, I am not going to Arkansas, I will not go to Arkansas. And I would challenge you, in the future, to make a better effort to look at the entire beast before you draw your conclusions.

"And, if you are going to draw harsh conclusions based upon you level of information, make certain you have asked the harsh questions. You did not ask me if I were going to Arkansas."

Perrault apologies on his blog and writes that he is happy that Rasmussen is staying put at Creighton.

And Perrault wonders why his show isn't taken seriously in this town. Pardon the sports cliche, but go ride some pine Matt.

I actually enjoy listening to him at times, because he doesn't bring the same old Husker slant to sportstalk in this town.

However, this year with Creighton, he is every bit the obnoxious homer that Jim Rose is and more. I've lost a lot of respect for him during this whole thing....from the whole crybaby routine over NU-Oregon to wanting to calling yesterday's announcement, "the biggets Omaha sports story in 10 years."

Whatever dude.

My goodness...IT'S TALK RADIO!!! Not all the information is going to be factual! It's four hours of talk. There WILL be opinions involved. If every AD called in or wrote emails to every talk show host about opinions or specualation that's all there would be to talk about. Let it go Rasmussen, your college has had enough embarrasment lately.

Congratulations Matt, you may have just saved your job for the time being. By the way, Mr. Rasmussen will not be available to have his car buffed at his normal time tomorrow. He asked if you could buff it on Friday instead.

Signed,

His secretary

Bad Perrault. Bad bad bad.

Go sit in the corner for awhile and ponder thine transgression.

This is the beginning of the end for Perrault and his radio show.

Mark my words, he'll be gone before the College World Series comes to town.

And don't be surprised if the sports format is quick to follow...

How dare you criticize Matt. He is too good for Omaha and he always eats his vegetables. You'll be sorry when he's gone!

On Tuesday, I think he spent the better part of an hour trying to figure out if the Arkansas jet had landed in Omaha with Altman.

Its landed.

Its parked at the airport.

No, its on the way.

No, its sitting in Arkansas.

Its suppose to arrive at 8:54 p.m.

Its an Arkansas jet with tail #: blah, blah, blah.

The pilot's name is Skip. He's wearing khaki pants and a Razorback polo shirt.

Well, its white with wheels and curtains in the windows. It looks like a big, white Tylenol. Oh, wait that is from the movie Airplane.

What is it with the state of Nebraska, Arkansas, the media and learjets? Ugh!

Creighton holds the cards in this radio situation. On 590 today, you had Matty drooling over Rasmussen and Altman while on 1620, you had Kevvie blowing kisses to Rasmussen in an interview. Both of those stations are starved for advertising dollars and Creighton has basketball on 590 and baseball on 1620. Both know they need to tow the line with not too much criticism and both would like to have all of the advertising dollars on their station.

For the few minutes, during commericals on the zone, I listened to goober Matt all I kept hearing was him having everyone wish him a happy birthday how lame and to beat that he was going to call his mommy. great radio. Gee what was next an hour of Red Sox Talk.

I would totally agree with the earlier poster that Matt is a total schill for Creighton the way Rose is for NU. They can do nothing wrong in his eyes.

Oh and Welcome Back One and Done Dana....You must not have checked that Arkansas was in a Major conference and we all know how overmatched you were the last time you coached in one.

Seems to me he did pretty well at K-State. He just wasn't doing it fast enough for that basketball crazy state.

Swank, you are so off about Dana it is pathetic. At least he has won a game in the NCAAs, how have the Huskers done?

Yeah, thats what I thought.

Hey, that is fine if you want to accept a trip to the big dance and not winning. Even Altman, in his acceptance speech at Arkansas said he moved on to go to a place where he can win a championship - that basically says I know we can never win one at Creighton. I would think you would want more for your program - you were rated in the polls when the season began and had a lot of hype and what happened - same old same old. If, with funk and company, you didnt win in the tourney and go a few rounds this year, when will they?

Thats what I thought...

But if Creighton fan is ok with that, fine.

Swank:

You have to account for injuries earleir this year, which did some damage. Also, if you look at the years Altman has been here, he's been building Creighton into a fairly decent basketball team.
Will they ever be national champions? Probably not, but it could happen. Look at Marquette as one example.

Altman is a darn good coach and I would bet that Creighton will be in a Sweet Sixteen within the next five to six years.

Also, you might want to read Mike Kelly's column in the Saturday World-Herald for more information on this coach you said couldn't make it in the big leagues. He was coach of the year in the old Big Eight. I think that speaks for itself.

Matt is a tool.. he should go back east or/south to the radio BJ's he is trying to give "his" teams...

Ask Matt about his ratings sometime. He'll go ballistic. He is in a battle with people at Huskers Illustrated and elsewhere about them. He gets so out of shape out of being in second place that is almost funny, if it wasn't pathetic.
