Dana Altman Departure Announcement
Dominates Monday's Local Sports News

Several Omaha radio and TV news stations planned live coverage of a press conference in Fayetteville, Ark., Monday night to announce the hiring of Dana Altman as the new men's basketball coach at the University of Arkansas.

KETV (Cox Channel 9) announced on its website, KETV.com, that it would carry the 5 p.m. press conference. KMTV's website, Action3News.com, will stream coverage of the press conference, while radio stations KXSP (590 AM) and KOZN (1620 AM) were also planning to broadcast it.

KXSP announced earlier in the day that it was scrapping the Kansas City Royals baseball game in order to free up airtime for the story.

Travis Justice was first to break the news Monday morning on local radio that Altman was leaving Creighton after 13 seasons.

Justice delivered the news to listeners of his sports talk show on KXSP (590 AM). He also shared the news with KMTV (Cox Channel 5), where he works as the station's sports director.

Speculation grew Sunday on the Bluejays' official message board, thebluejaycafe.com, that Altman was eyeing the job - and it was no April Fools' Day joke. Earlier this morning, someone even posted the flight plan of the Arkansas Razorback Foundation Jet, which was scheduled to arrive in Omaha shortly after noon to fly Altman to Arkansas.

It's kind of funny that Travis Justice was the first to break the news this morning. Last night on his late sports show on KMTV, he was the one who told his viewers that Altman was definitely staying at Creighton and that we heard it from him first.

Thanks, Trav, for being as wrong as you are arrogant!

He claims that last night's broadcast was an April Fools Joke. For what it's worth......

The Omaha media lives for these spoon-fed announcements. The last time I saw them all worked up in such a lather was the Edwards trial verdict. And before that, the all-important Hagel Press Conference.

One of these days, somebody is actually going to go the extra mile and grab an interview with say, Dana Altman or Chuck Hagel.

And then I'll keel over like Fred Sanford: "I'm coming to see you, Elizabeth. This is the big one!"

@ 3:03 PM - for anyone that watches or listens to Trav, every day is April Fool's Day, for the joke is on the viewer/listener. :-p

Actually, Travis did not break the news. He quoted a report from
Fox Sports.Com. Pretty soon Arkansas TV stations had confirmed it as well.

Ah, now it makes sense. Obbop likes Trav. I guess Trav isn't the only "tool" in the proverbial "tool" box. Ha ha.

That said, perhaps he can work on that loose screw of yours, Obbop!

I thought Trav and his lil' buddy Matty were "in like flint" with CU and would have broken this huge story...but instead Trav learned about it "3rd" hand. Action 3rd News at it's best.

So, you guys obviously aren't checking your facts. Last night's show had an April Fools joke tied into the beginning. The bitching gets old. Anyone who watched the show had a ball with his joke. They were talking about it on the radio in Kansas City this morning about how it fooled so many people. Take a joke around here people, no wonder people don't take Omaha seriously.

But steve, that would have required us to watch/listen to Trav. Why would we want to subject ourselves to that? Regardless of whether or not it is April Fools Day...

No argument there!
