WOWT Daybreak Blog Sheds Light
On Morning Team Behind The Scenes

Courtesy, WOWT.comIf you want to know what WOWT (Cox Channel 8) morning newscast staffers Malorie Maddox, Jim Siedlecki and Michael Born do outside of the two-plus hours they appear on TV, visit the "Live at Daybreak DayBlog" on WOWT.com.

Most days, the posts feature a "top six" of some sort - rainiest cities, most trustable (sic) celebrities, pop culture dogs. Occasionally, photos are posted (like the one at right showing Maddox at her April wedding to attorney Greg Bolton).

One post, though, over the past couple of weeks, does stand out from all the rest.

Writes Siedlecki:

I don't feel sick but I felt my voice going yesterday and despite my best efforts with tea and drops there was just no way I could do the show this morning. I tried for the first half hour but at some point you just have to swallow your pride and understand that a nasty voice is not good for the product, even if I feel physically fine. So it's behind the scenes work for me today including a quick update here.

This incident brought to mind a 10 p.m. newscast in the spring of 2003 when former WOWT news co-anchor Pat Persaud could hardly speak, her voice reduced to a hoarse whisper by a cold. For reasons unknown, she remained on the set, delivering the news in a barely audible tone.

WOWT is strongly ramping up its promotion to make a run at KETV's heavily-promoted - and new-look - morning newscast. KETV has had to shuffle its talent in the absence of morning co-anchor Elictia Hammond, who went on bedrest last week while awaiting the birth of twins in September.

With Hammond sidelined, weekend morning co-anchor Brandi Petersen has joined John Oakey in the mornings - leaving her former weekend co-anchor, Todd Andrews, on the desk with reporter Lisa Stites.

Oh man. I wish I could have seen the episode where Siedlecki couldn't speak. It would have been the only watchable edition of that horrible program.

Have you seen the promo where they have a rooster typing up the newscast? I know they were trying to be cute. But a part of me thought it was most likely a true scenario.

Wow, is Malorie hot or what!!!!!!!!!

Can we say "married up"?

Malorie is a good looking woman; however, sometimes on the tube her hair looks like a lion's mane. In this picture, she looks great. She doesn't even have to speak.

She is by far the best looking woman in local television. Frankly, that is what it is all about.

and Siedlecki further writes...

then later I got a hangnail. Jeepers Creepers - that really hurt!

Then Malorie told me to suck it up and stop being a pansie boy. She really hurt my feelings! Plus, she was having a better hair day then me! I took one look at her hair and wanted to scratch her eyes out!

Well, after all that I just couldn't do the rest of the show. I was like so bummed!

I went shopping at Bed, Bath & Beyond to try make myself feel better.

Malorie Maddox is NOT the best looking woman on TV, and she's by far NOT the nicest or the best anchorwoman. She's cute, but she looks ghostly on-air and her hair always looks flat, dry and boring. Despite her attractive appearance, her voice is what gets me. Between her voice, weird mannerims and Siedlecki's Gomer Pyle-ness, I can't watch their program (although witchy Elictia Hammond scares me at 6 a.m. - yikes!)

Who cares what she looks like on tv, she's fine, married or not. The dude she married is a lucky guy. Sidelicko tried to hit that but she said no way.

I think Brandi Petersen gives Malorie Maddox a run for her money we we are talking about hot anchors! I remember Brandi wearing a nice pair of CFMB's at the CWS last year.. looked good!

Anonymous said...

CFMB's are wonderful inventions..

Anonymous said...

What are CFMB's?

I will refer you to urbandictionary.com rather than divulge that info..

Some time ago, I had the rare opportunity to see Siedlecki trying to work the automated check-out machine at the Baker's supermarket. Now that was comedy.

I still can't watch the Daybreak news without having laugh-out-loud flashbacks of him talking to the checkout machine saying, "Huh? What?" As if he expected it to reply to him.

Seriously, where did Channel Six find this guy? He's what you call a yahoo.

I think Jim is a great guy in a sort of Clark Kent type of "aw shucks" way. He's real people and the media needs more of that. Way to go Jim.

Thats fine if you want to think of him as Clark Kent. But if he starts wearing a skin-tight Superman costume, many a morning viewer will not be able to keep down their oatmeal.

Sorry I Just Threw up in my Mouth thinking about it

I was engaged to Malorie for a short time. Unfortunately it didn't work out (sigh.) Good luck to her and Gary.

So did you hit it at least?
