KXSP Not To Be Outdone On CWS Coverage

Big Sports 590 logo, courtesy of Journal BroadcastingNot to overlooked when it comes to local radio coverage of the College World Series is the extensive pre- and post-game offerings on KXSP (590 AM).

Matt Perrault, host of "The Big Show" (weekdays, 2-6 p.m.), will broadcast his show from "radio row" outside Rosenblatt Stadium and will carry every post-game press conference live when it falls within the time slot of his show. A special aspect of coverage will be produced by roving reporter "Wally" from Budweiser, who will share stories and interviews about life at the CWS.

The "Big Sports 590" website, in conjunction with broadcast partner KMTV (Cox Channel 5) is also offering streaming video of all postgame press conferences.

"We have a lot of things going on, plus the non-baseball fan can still hear sports talk radio," Perrault said. "Many people don't care about the games unless they are
there."

I care about the CWS and am happy to have my radio tuned to 1620 The Zone for all the games I don't get to attend in person.

Perrault lives in a fantasy world if he thinks anybody in the area listening to sports would choose him over the competition's LIVE coverage of the CWS.

I'm looking forward to hearing Perrault's take. This will be good for local radio. Keep up the good work Matt.

Good for Matt. Let's give them a look at how the big time sports announcers do baseball. Way to go man. You are tops in my book.

matt's mom must be checking in!

Get off this blog Matt and get to work. Hone those skills of yours...

Anonymous said...

You need skills to be a janitor???

If that's the case...Matt's got a lot to learn.

Anonymous said...

OOOOOHHHHHhhhhh...live press conferences!!!!!! Big whopping do!
At least that would be a 1/2 hour to an hour that Perrault would not be on the air!!!!!! hehehehehe

I'm a big fan of Matt Perrault. This town finally has someone that isn't from here to share his views on sports. Good, good radio. Now bring on the criticism. You guys get old!

Anonymous said...

You mean like stimulating discussions on why somebody can't be a Husker and Bluejay fan and, if you dare discuss the issue with Matt he simply calls you stupid? Yeah, that is something fresh in sports radio that this area needed.

another great weekend of college baseball, and it could be heard ONLY on 1620 The Zone.

I have NO idea what was going on at Big Snores 590 this weekend...was too busy listening to quality sport radio.

Anonymous said...

Actually I listen to 590 on the weekends because THAT is when there is stimulating sports conversation in the afternoon - not the weekdays because it is the FOX network announcers!

Perrault is jumping the shark quickly in this town. It all started with his tear-filled hissy-fit during the Creighton-NCAA basketball tourney ticket fiasco, and hasn't really stopped.

It's too bad, because I enjoy listening to him at times. But his non-conformist attitude and "I-know-better-than-you" schtick is getting really really old.

Then again, the "aww shucks" act on 1620 isn't much better, and during the football season, it's actually much worse.

My kingdom for a listenable sports show in this town. (And don't get me started on Travis)

Anonymous said...

Travis who???

Anonymous said...

Another solid ratings trend this spring from Big Sports. They jumped up a whole tenth while the Zone really kicked them in the ratings butt thus far. Maybe that is why Perrault is wondering where his strawberries are.

Anonymous said...

590 rocks! Keep it going Matt. You may not be number one, but you are moving up, little by little.

Anonymous said...

Matt does a good job and is not afraid of doing things diffeently. Great work, Matt!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, really moving up in the ratings. The trend numbers show that they went from a 1.1 to a 1.2! Whooo! Way to go! Meanwhile, KOZN moves from 1.9 to a 2.8...that is movin on up.

Anonymous said...

You should see the male numbers, which is where a sports talk station makes it's hay. I work in radio, and have seen the trend. Let's just say there's a big gap between #1 and #10 in men.

Anonymous said...

This is great. I really enjoy hearing Perrault's "take" on things. He'll be able to paint a picture over the air regarding the happenings on the field. 1620's days are numbered and Perrault will be the new king of Omaha sports talk. CHALK IT!

Anonymous said...

Hey Matt, I have some experience covering sports for my local hometown team (Denison, Iowa). I'd like to partner up with you sometime. I will provide you with a happy ending...GUARANTEED!

Anonymous said...

Matt Perrault is my hero.

Anonymous said...

There's still a number of people that are listening to him. Just wait, Perrault will catch on when the Omaha hicks realize that this is big time radio baby.

Anonymous said...

Matt, you are THE MAN! I can think of nothing better than to talk Creighton sports with you over a couple of wine coolers.

Anonymous said...

Is Matt gay? I was thinking of asking him out.

Anonymous said...

who knows...maybe one day Jim Rome or Dan Patrick will let Matt Perrault carry their jockstraps for them.

That's as close to the big time as he'll ever get...he certainly won't get there for what he does ON the air.

Anonymous said...

As always people - thanks for listening. Oh, I sign my responses.

Hey Matt -- I heard some of your show today.

That's 3 1/2 minutes of my life I'm NEVER going to get back...

Anonymous said...

Did anybody see Perrault doing his little bit of quality journalism on Zesto's during the KM3 10 pm newscast?

My Gawwwwwd....that might have been the funniest bit of third-rate "news reporting" ever put to tape. It was a 9.8 on the unintentional comedy scale, easily.

What's next...Matt reporting live from the monkey cage? Seems a good idea...he'd feel right at home there, since only a primate would be able to truly appreciate his third-rate show.

Anonymous said...

8:15 PM

Not defending Perrault or anything here, but I think you better return to your Biology 101 class. Humans are in the Primate category. So effectively you are saying that humans do appreciate Matt's show. Just an observation from the scientific community.

Anonymous said...

No matter what anyone says Matt; I think your show is great and I enjoy listening to your unbiased observations. Keep up the good work pal.

Anonymous said...

Unbiased? Didn't he just come out of the closet as a Bluejay fan? I also think his worship of the Red Sox is, well, unhealthy.

Anonymous said...

Matt Perrault is a breath of fresh air to the otheriwse stagnant radio of the Omaha community. Way to go Matt! You've got a listener for as long as you are here!

Anonymous said...

Man...where is all this anger coming from? This is just about radio and television folks. Isn't there something more constructive you could be griping about?

Matt Perrault, Kevin Kugler, Jim Rose and the bevy of others out there in radio and television are just trying to make a living doing what they do best, like any of us. Why all the vitriol? What one likes another may not. Leave it be already.

Anonymous said...

The "vitriol" as you classically put is simply reflective of Perrault's show. He tends not to engage in a discussion with those who happen to disagree with his takes...errr...opinions. Rather, his problem is solved when he calls a caller, emailer, or blogger stupid and then continues on ad infinitum on his subject. Sometimes this works, most of the time, he comes off as a sniveling, east coast, whiner.

Anonymous said...

Don't all of them act the same way? It seems to me that everyone on the radio with a talk show of kind does the exact same thing. And your comment about the "east coast whiner" shows the ignorance that is inherent in this part of the country. Get out a bit more, away from your countrified roots and see the world. Perrault's defintely got a good show.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps you could explain ( in simple words of course ) to this "countrified" hick how your big-city sophistication determines what a 'good show' is. My poor simple thought process thought it was a matter of personal taste, but obviously you've got the answers. Lets have a few of your examples please - so's I can done learn something about "good" radio.

Anonymous said...

12:54 PM:

Did you learn to spell and write on the east coast too? By the way, speaking of which, perhaps you should look at where Nebraska and Iowa are ranked in terms of education compared to your beloved east coast.

Anonymous said...

C'mon people...let's all admit it, Perrault rules the air waves from an outsider point of view. Ya gotta love the guy! He is great radio!

Anonymous said...

He's great radio ONLY when the alternative is a 24-hour Sonny and Cher Greatest Hits station.

Anonymous said...

How many times can Matt's mom post on this blog?

Anonymous said...

Personally, I think Jim Rose is better than all of them combined. This guy is good!

Anonymous said...

Kevin Kugler has done a fantastic job of covering the CWS for 1620 the Zone...much better than anything Big Snores 590 could come up with on their best day.

Anonymous said...

Sure Kugler sucks...he is only the voice of college football radio and basketball on Westwood One, honored as the best Nebraska sports broadcaster for several years in a row and hosts the most popular local radio sports show in Omaha. Yup, he sure does suck.

Anonymous said...

He still sucks. Where's your taste at Nebraska?

Anonymous said...

Hey 9:08 a.m. are you saying that he still sucks because the nation listens to his broadcasts every Saturday? So, its just not Nebraska, it is the whole US of A that must be stupid as compared to, well, just you.

Anonymous said...

If the shoe fits.....

Anonymous said...

And he won the best Nebraska sportscaster of the year....? C'mon, like that's something to brag about. Hayseeds.

Anonymous said...

11:31 AM:

Perhaps he just means those that listen to sports talk radio must be stupid. I think it highly unlikely that everyone in the "US of A" listens to sports talk radio. Some of us do have better things to do with our lives. Peace...out.

did anyone else catch this? Derek Martin is going to give Matt a "Happy ending...GUARANTEED"

i will listen to his show that day!

If they have better things to do than to listen to sports talk radio, then you REALLY must not have much to do when you comment on people commenting on sports talk radio.

I think Kevin is doing just fine...he is, by far, the best this state has to offer. He is one of the best national sports pxp guys otherwise Westwood One would not have hired him or retained him. So, choke on that Mrs. Perrault.

Anonymous said...

Did any of you ever think that perhaps some of these people are yanking your chains. I love to get the bitter bloggers stirred up. Heh, heh, heh, heh.

Anonymous said...

7:29 PM:

Laughing hard at you that you take this so seriously. Get a life.

Anonymous said...

Kugler is all right once in awhile, but personally I prefer Perrault. He gives a big city rendition of everything. This is just what Omaha needs. It's a matter of personal preference.

Anonymous said...

Well 6:59, your writing is so verbose that I cannot tell what you are trying to say...or not say.

Say what?

8:40 AM what snappy repartee. What a witty comeback. Not. lol.
