KMTV Shuffles Anchor Lineup

KMTV (Cox Channel 5) viewers will soon wake up to see a new face on "Action 3 News This Morning."

Mary Williams is moving to a dayside reporting shift but will continue to anchor the popular "Action 3 News at Midday" program. Replacing her on morning newscasts will be Kerri Stowell, who previously co-anchored weekend newscasts with Devon Patton.

KMTV News Director Ken Dudzik said Patton will solo anchor the weekend newscasts, in addition to continuing to report. Stowell will also continue to report, giving the station an extra reporter to file reports for the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts.

I now have no reason to watch the weekend news on KM3. I might just 'get up' in the morning for Stowell though...

More importantly, will there be any whale-tail sightings in the morning now?

so Mary has essentially lost her job, and Journal is trying to "ease her off" the air by making her a lowly reporter, and then one day she'll just quietly disappear.

Mary, I'd get your clip tape together, pronto.

Also, Sean...."The POPULAR live at Midday program?!?"

Please tell us you put that just to make Mary feel better about being told she's too old to work there anymore.

It is the number one local news show at 12pm every day.

Mary wasn't forced out of mornings, she wanted the change.

LOL @ 11:32am.

I suppose that's true since they're only up against soap operas by that time. :-)

Every day I'm faced with a horrifying dilemma: Mary Williams or Days of our Lives.

What are the chances of bringing in Mary Williams in as a villainess? She could poison Marlena while describing how a taser was used at a traffic stop in South Omaha.

If you examine the household ratings for KMTV's noon newscast as far back as 2002, you will find that the audience numbers for that program often rivaled - and sometimes exceeded - the audience for the station's 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts.

Maybe she should be in the anchor slot at 5 and 6 PM.

Sean, that's not saying much....

Sean, Now that's a testament to just how bad 3's evening news is! Oprah is on right before the 5pm news and the only ones who don't turn the channel are those to infirm to change the channel, people whose tv only gets 1 channel and those in a drunken stupor. If 6 or 7 had that lead in, they'd be off the charts. Even Dan Rather would win the time slot (oops!)

I'm sorry to see Mary Weeyums leave the mornings, she added class, sophistocation and intelligence to that morning show (where their competitors lacked). Kerri will be a fine replacement, but she needs to get over her "S" hiss, it's so noticeable and annoying...although Mallory Maddox's voice might be even worse...yuck!

11:14 has probably hit the nail on the head.
If an anchor is transferred in the watseland that is KM3, does it make a sound????????
May book looked SADDDDDDD for those new 'spensive anchors that Journal paid for. I suppose they'll spin that there's no set timetable for actually getting viewers. Gotta love those "suit" quotes that Wexler passes down from corporate!

Good news! Kerri has some talent and is really pleasant to watch. Good move by Action 3!

I actually emailed Action 3 after I found out (from this website) about the new anchors for the CBS affiliate. I really wanted Kerri to get the job. She was excellent the two weeks or so that she filled in.

Will that help KM3? Doubt it. Kerri is ok to look at I guess, but Mary has been especially fetching lately! From a viewer standpoint I perceive Mary to be the more credible of the morning show anchors, though I actually watch them all and switch between them. Patton's voice annoys me to no end. I can't listen to him!

I'll wait until I see Kerri. I have three friends at work that rave about her but I've yet to see her. Does this start effective immediately?

Devon Patton alone as an anchor on the weekends? OOhhhh nOOOO !!!!!

It's "HOME ALONE 5" !!!!!!!!!!!!!

well mary did a perfect job when she filled in on the 5pm news the other day ...it was worth watching

Also don't forget, Mary Williams has been doing mid day radio news updates on Journal stations too since they let the voice of the CWS go 18 months shy of his retirement...Bill Jensen.

I wish I was Kerri's lipstick

Darn Darn Darn...Kerri and Devin's vying for the Guinness Book of World Record for greatest number of malapropisms in a half hour was classic TV. I am prostate (sic) with grief over this change.

I saw Kerri at the CWS last night...she looks even better in person than on TV! Does anyone know when the change will take effect?

Kerri seems very smart and is obviously very beautiful but watching her tonight leads me to believe she has some serious work to do on her "S's". I literally have to turn down the TV when she is on. It is very distracting and could hinder her progression as an anchor.

Female anchors should be forced to watch "All About Eve" on a yearly basis.
Mary has never had a particularly genuine persona as an anchor--her mannerisms and voice are a bit too coached--but she can read a script coherently (unlike her predecessor)and is an unobjectionable prescence during the day.
As far as the evening newscasts, Mary was briefly an anchor at 6PM. Loretta Carroll was dropped from that newscast, but returned in short order.

Kerri needs to ease up on the collagen injections. She will look worse than Meg Ryan, Lisa Rinna, etc. before she is 30.

Mary Weeyums is a venerable veteran and smoothly easy on the eyes. I'd like to see her anchor the 6 and 10 news.

The ratings are in and Channel Third again made good on its nickname.

Ratings for 3 are down 19% from May 06 to May 07. WOW! Wonder how management is going to spin that.

Like Matt Perrault does for 590...you don't know the real story, you don't know the age breakdowns...you just don't know so shut up!

Sorry to go Perrault on you...

Maybe this time they'll replace the people of Omaha to better suit their format.

They've replaced the news anchors, perhaps the sports and/or weather will be the next to be let go.....

2:48 pm:

That is the funniest post so far on this entry. I'm still chuckling over it.
