KVSS Expanding Broadcast Reach
Omaha Catholic radio station KVSS (88.9 FM) is making plans for a multi-million dollar expansion that will increase its broadcast reach to nearly 1.2 million people.

The nine-year-old station currently reaches 662,000 people within a 50-mile radius of Omaha. The planned expansion is expected to cost $3.5 million - of which $1 million has already been raised.

Here's another one to add to the notebook:

Pappas Telecasting Companies yesterday announced the cancellation of news programming at its two Reno stations (Market #110), KREN-27-CW and KAZR-46, a Tu VisiĆ³n affiliate. Both news departments, which broadcast from a 8,500 square foot glass-fronted studio in the Meadowood Mall, went dark following Monday's newscasts.

***The good folks at KPTM ought to think about saving stories for their resume tape.********

Any more details on the KVSS upgrade? The upgrade seems even more in order now that a station is on the air on 88.9 in the Lincoln area, blocking out the KVSS signal southwest of the Platte and putting a good deal of interference even closer in to Omaha.

Go satellite, then you have no worries.

I understand KVSS 88.9 is is going to 100,000 watts on a tower near Sprinfield. Assume they are buying an existing station. I've listened to their Morning Show with veteran Bruce McGregor of Z92 and CD105 fame of the 80s and 90s and voice of the Creighton Bluejays, T. Scott Marr. Its the type of programming needed for Omaha and Lincoln.

A little off the subject. But those "6 on Your Side" people over at WOWT are slowly going off the deep end.

Last night they ran a story about a woman who left her wedding dress at a dry cleaner *years* ago and had the nerve to be angry when the dry cleaner finally gave it away to the Goodwill.

Makes me wonder if those "6 on Your Side" people *ever* get a phone call and say, "I'm sorry. That's just not newsworthy...Idiot"

"Omaha Press Club's Excellence in Journalism Awards competition?"

Wow! Talk about a short night at the awards ceremony banquet. The sound of crickets chirping will break the deafening thunder of silence.

And I thought the American Idol elimination show was about 59 minutes too long each week...

Maybe to spice up the awards ceremony they should offer categories for "Hottest News Babe" "Dorkiest Weather Guy" "Tubbiest, Blabbering Sports Guy" Oh, wait Trav holds the lifetime achievement award in that last category.

Dorkiest weather guy?

And the nominees are...Well, basically, every weather guy in the city.

So, will The Big O get slain in the Spirit by KVSS?

I was trying to figure out what the deal was, and what 100KW sticks might be up for sale, but nothing jibed with the "proposed coverage map" on the KVSS website . . . until you go to the FCC website and pull up the signal contour map of 101.9 FM.

Exact match. EXACT match.

It's not confirmation, but it sure as hell is something to run with.

I bet if they combined this award show with some wrestling awards, the turnout would be stellar....standing room only I'm sure.....maybe make Jim Rose the MC too. People would flock from miles away.....

And have Erin Andrews providing color commentary....mmmmm, tasty.

NOOO! That stupid 88.9 screws up my FM transmitter when I'm trying to listen to my ipod!

Another bad day to quit sniffing glue

Jimmy....do you like it when Matt Perrault grabs onto your leg and rubs up and down?

Maybe if KVSS buys 101.9, you can buy 88.9 and play your ipod on it.

IPOD? That's exactly what NRG is doing on 101.9 now. They better hope they have a back up battery handy as those IPOD batteries SUCK!

I wonder if KVSS could be put on AM becasue their map shows differnt ranges for their coverage in the car and a regular radio.
