Newsblues Follows Up

The TV insider website Newsblues has a follow-up to Media Watch's story earlier this week regarding WOWT anchor/reporter Mike Cronemeyer.

Writes publisher Mike James in Friday's edition of the newsletter:

Following yesterday's report on Mike Gonzalez-Cronemeyer, we learned that Phil Grimshaw, a reporter at News 12 New Jersey, has been shopping his resume tape as “Phil Sanchez Grimshaw.”

Newsblues did a little digging and found out Sanchez Grimshaw's agent, Julie Eckhert of Eckhert Talent Management, also represents Cronemeyer.

Very interesting. There's a conspiracy going on in this country...I know it now.

...everything's a consiracy

This country is run by four guys in a room in Fairfax, Virginia. It's true.

Mike Gonzalez-Cronemeyer?

That sounds reasonable enough. Though it kind of might make one think he's married to somebody of the same sex.

He would do well in Miami, Dallas, L.A. What kind of response would you expect in Nebraska. Go for it Mike...be proud of who you are.

Ok, seriously, have you watched the guy? He's terrible -- boring, lifeless. He has no business being on TV...hey Gonzalez, go be an insurance salesman...

to anonymous ast 6:07pm: he'll do well in LA, dallas, or miami?! ha ha. that's a good one. he can be proud of who is he but shouldn't have to change his name to do that. if he's so good he should be able to get a job w/o trying to play up the minority card.

Apparently you haven't seen LA TV News...let's just say that talent isn't a big priority there.

Did any of you folks notice that with Grimshaw, his name is "Phil Sanchez Grimshaw" with NO HYPHENS??

It's not exactly rare for boys to have their mother's maiden name as their middle name.

I don't see how him using all three names is any worse than anyone else going by their first and middle names -- "Mary Beth Jones," "Jimmy Joe Smith," "Rae Ann Wilson," etc.

So don't be jumping his butt about "playing the race card" unless you know for sure that the Sanchez was made up.

Man, I woulda hated a last name of Gonzalez-Cronemeyer as a kid. Imagine having to write that name on every homework assignment. My last name with 7 letters was bad enough. And think about those standardized tests where you had to fill in the circles with a No. 2 pencil for each letter of your last name. He'd still be filling in the name circles when the kid with the last name of "Nye" was finishing the test!

11:33 am "it kind of might make one think he's married to somebody of the same sex."

Oh, we can only dream. I'd have no problem with him attaching his last name to mine while he attaches his chisled body to my boy parts. He'd have to give up the media career tho, cuz I'd keep his baseball bat busy. Wouldn't be able to sit right for weeks, if ya know what I mean.

But, alas, the wife and two kids tell me I have no chance with him.

That was not a picture I needed to see.

Philip Grimshaw was born Philip Sanchez. His mother was embarassed to be married to a Puerto Rican and when she married her second husband she changed his name to Grimshaw, the name of her second husband. He now wants to cash in on his Hispanic identity, however, he does not speak a lick of Spanish, nor does he know a thing about his Hispanic roots.

But is that Mr. Grimshaw/Sanchez' fault? Sounds to me that he has every right to be Philip Sanchez especially if it was his mother who changed his name.. I commend the guy for stepping up and taking back what is his! Just because he doesn't speak the language doesn't make him any less spanish!
