KETV Leads Ashland Firefighter Shooting Coverage

KETV (Cox Channel 9) scored an exclusive that provided its viewers - and competing media outlets - with insight into what happened Wednesday when a man started shooting at volunteer firefighters near Ashland.

During the station's 6 p.m. newscast, a witness to the shooting described the scene and events that had transpired earlier that afternoon. She told anchor Julie Cornell that deputies were involved in a standoff with the shooter and that at least one firefighter had been shot.

Area law enforcement agencies, which include Saunders County, are notorious for providing a lack of information during emergency situations.

Kudos to KETV. I have switched from Channel 6 to Channel 7 for my news, as they tend to have much more local coverage than 6. Sorry 6, I've been with you guys for years, but the product 7 is turning out now, is much better.

See, now I'm just the opposite. I switched to 6 from 7 because I don't care about every house fire or car accident that DOESN'T effect me. This guy is a nut out in a rural area - might cause probs for his 4 neighbors - but for 99.9% of Omaha it's not gonna touch our lives in any way shape or form.
Plus, the smiling used car salesman they have for a weatherguy is annoying. To each his own I guess.

Typical snooty Omaha people. They couldn't care less what goes on beyond their little corner of the world. Travel beyond your blocks will you.

You know, if you are like me, I tend to gravitate between all three news stations at five, six and 10. I check to see which station has the story I want to watch and I will watch that particular station. I've seen a number of people do this as well. I guess it all depends on the night which station we watch. All three have their merits. Great job to all three stations in Omaha! You don't get enough credit for the job you men and women do!

um.. there are four news stations in town.. don't forget about KPTM! :) If they would spend some money on a new set and graphics, maybe some producers for a topical newscast, they would be good.. maybe!

Um...10:14 AM...if you'll notice the fourth poster said at 5, 6 and 10. Does KPTM have a newscast then? Not unless you're on the east coast and I don't think they're seeing it there. Anyway, good job to KPTM, too.
