Changes at KETV

From a press release issued by KETV-Channel 7 Monday afternoon:

“Viewers tuning in to KETV NewsWatch 7 at 10 on Sunday night were greeted by a new Anchor team. Rob McCartney and Brandi Petersen along with Chief Meteorologist Bill Randby and Sports Anchor Matt Schick will now provide more complete coverage to viewers every Sunday night at 10.

“In addition to Anchoring the Sunday 10 p.m. news, Brandi Petersen is joining Julie Cornell as Co-Anchor of KETV NewsWatch 7 at 5 on Monday, January 7. Most recently Brandi was Co-Anchor of KETV NewsWatch 7 First News Weekend. Julie Cornell and Rob McCartney will continue to Co-Anchor KETV NewsWatch 7 and 6 and 10.

“’This change allows KETV to continue to have a strong Anchor team on our 5 p.m. newscast, while freeing up Rob McCartney to do more investigative reporting,’” according to KETV News Director Rose Ann Shannon.

“Rob McCartney will now lead KETV NewsWatch 7’s investigative ‘I-Team.’ Rob has won numerous broadcast journalism awards and adding him to the I-Team allows KETV to highlight one of his strengths. ‘My first love in television is reporting,’ said Rob McCartney. ‘Leading KETV’s I-Team allows me to focus on more stories that impact the heartland.’”

I love Station Employee's little quote:

"No one really cares what you think anyway."

Wow, Station Employee, you sure are going to a lot of effort to dispute the opinions that nobody cares about.

What are you like when you encounter an opinion you *do* care about?? Jeepers!

We need to find out what channel "Station Employee" works for.

We can then change that station's slogan: "When news breaks, our team is obsessed with a blog"

Someone has to put it back on you rather than letting you continue to shoot from the hip.

You know; this is sad. Matt Perrault is probably bawling his eyes out that he no longer has the record number of posts for this blog at a paltry 193. He's gone down here much as he has in the ratings.

Anonymous said...

Why don't you let us know who you are, Station Employee? Afraid that your masters will fire you if they figure out you are surfing the web rather than working on your poor excuse for reporting.

Anonymous said...

It is really sad that instead of trying to do anything to improve their station...Or actually doing anything to prepare for their so-called newscast...Station Employee would rather spend hours monitoring a blog in order to be the one to get the last word.

I would pay cash money to know what station this employee worked for.

I next expect this reply from Station Employee:

"Na na na na na!"

Seems to be about right in the context of his/her (cough Suzanne cough) thoughts.

10:25 AM have you seen a blog from me beyond 4 PM? No...that's because I work for a living. Quit going to Dragon's Lair to pick up your comic books and get out a bit more. Get some gainful employment instead of surfing the web all day looking to make an ignorant comment. No one cares!

Oh...and one other thing, this will be my last post, as I have far better things to do with MY time than trade jabs with the small minded obdurate (look it up if you actually know how to read a book)miscreants that feel an incessant need to post their uninformed musings. Unlike the rest of you, I do have a job to do.

Signing off with undoubtedly nary the last word,

You've got to love our little literary genius. She throws out her five dollar words like "obdurate" (which basically means she managed to find thesaurus.com and zeroed in on the most impressive sounding word)

And yet she can't remember how to spell the word station (I'll give you a hint, its not "stattion").

Statttttion Employee, you have no idea what I do for a living. But I guarantee you it doesn't involve comic books and it doesn't involve making a fool of myself on television. Can you say the same?

Dear station employees of all Omaha TV Stations: Who cares what I think? Me, little old me, what I think? The sponsors! That's all. Really. They care what I think. Watching a different stations newscast, or turning you off entirely to watch Two and a Half Men, or the Colbert Report, or ANYTHING else doesn't make them happy I'll bet. SO that makes ME your boss in a roundabout fashion.

SO, STFU. And get to work. Its what I'm paying you for.

I am Station Employee. I am only one person and I am an on air personality who is tired of the trash talking on all the blogs. My god, you people suck. Don't you have anything better to do in this world than criticize people that are just making a valiant attempt to bring you information? I wish I could sit on my butt all day read through a blog every few minutes and criticize some used care salesman (which most of you probably are) for the way they did their jobs. Perhaps you should ask yourselves how you would feel if you were being criticized every day by a bunch of know nothing ignoramuses. How would you feel?

Geez people...get a life and grow up already.

I have to agree with Radio Personality. Nobody is forcing you to get up there on air. For that matter, nobody is forcing you to read this blog. In fact, I'd be rather surprised to discover your employers are aware you post so frequently here.

Many of us are sick of what passes as broadcast journalism in this city. Could we do better? Possibly. Could we do worse? Doubtful. Do we have every right to complain about your shoddy product? Sure do.

So I think you have three alternatives:

1. Quit coming here because its obviously causing you great distress
2. Get yourself some thicker skin.
3. Join the rest of us in the used car lot. Your pretty face won't be on TV all the time, but you won't be nearly as traumatized.

Anonymous said...

TV IMP,

Time for you to move to another market perhaps. You sound like a disgruntled bitter washed up hack,we've got enough of those here. Please go to Des Moines, your act will play well there.

Anonymous said...

KETV going to 1 hour:

smart counter-programming to KMTV and WOWT's sports shows. It'll be interesting to see the format. Hopefully, it's more in depth reporting and not a rehash every half hour.

Guess we'll find out this weekend and can critique it afterwards.

No one will be watching more closely than Channel 6's people.

Anonymous said...

I caught part of the promo for the KETV hour I saw something about a 14 day forecast and I Team and consumer watch investigations.

Anonymous said...

Randby can't forecast 2 days out worth a spit without copying the weather service. Can't wait to see a 2 week try!
It'll bet 99% of people won't remember what his guess was 3 days after the fact let alone 14.
Lemme guess, in July it'll read 80s, 80s, 80s, 90s, 90s, 90s, 80s, 80s, 80s, 80s, 80s, 90s, 90s & 90s. Other than promotional, it's a waste of time!

Anonymous said...

twas the day of the hour long newscast for ketv, and i couldnt wait to see what news they could rehash and what the bloggers were gonna say about it on the almighty blog

Anonymous said...

ok just watched the hour long ketv sunday 10 edition- pretty good, didnt rehash too much, but i guess maybe the scrapped the idea for the 14 day forecast? no mention of it and didnt see it... any word on that? was it because randby wasnt there?

Anonymous said...

Also just watched the hour-long KETV Sunday 10 pm news.

They might as well have just kept a 30-minute newscast and given Schick a 30-minute sports show afterward.

I'd disagree with 9:01 pm - a little too much rehash for me. Just how many times can we go live to Farah Fazal in north O?

Anonymous said...

to respond to 9:16, it was breaking news. they wouldnt have gone back to her so many times if it wasnt

Anonymous said...

I, too, watched the first hour-long Sunday night broadcast and was a little disappointed. It seemed like they just threw it together without much thought of actual substance. And where was that much-promoted 14-day forecast? Maybe Chuck McWilliams, who was substituting, wasn't allowed to debut the extended outlook. I'm told that Bill has to be front and center in such events or he throws a fit. That's just what I'm told, mind you.

Having said all that, it was their first broadcast in the new format, so I'm sure they'll tweak it and make it run more smoothly in the future. Brandi Petersen does a good job in the anchor chair.

Anonymous said...

the show was pretty good but i just wonder how many are watching the full hour.

Anonymous said...

4:52 pm - They could have done just as well having Farah on at the beginning of the newscast and again at the end of the newscast to catch us up on anything that happened during the newscast. Going back to her during the newscast for recaps was a waste of time.

Anonymous said...

9:46 pm - I wonder that too. You have to wonder how many of the folks who have to get up for work Monday morning will switch to watching WOWT and KM3 so they can continue going to bed at 10:30...

Anonymous said...

Going to Farrah period is a waste of time. Can't understand a thing.

An hour just means more Brandi fake laughing. Does that drive anyone else nuts? WORST LAUGH EVER! So fake, so fake.

Five minutes is too much of local news these days. Certainly don't need an hour. Thank goodness for cable.

Nice job by 7 on the Sunday morning broadcast. Todd was reading the sports and talking about Creighton's victory on Saturday night. Sadly for him, he was reading copy on the Saturday game while the video was from the Northern Iowa game played on Tuesday.

Nice job 7. Way to pay attention.

Anonymous said...

It's funny, along the lines of the 11:05 comment I was going to call out who I thought posted the 7:41 AM comment. I assume it is the blow hard who does the sports at KM3rd but for the life of me I could not think of his name. I had to go their site to see it was Travis Justice. They have become so irrelevant I can't even remember their talent to criticize them.

I am not Matt Perrault. I don't listen to Matt Perrault very often or for very long. Truth be told, I find him kind of annoying.

But MY GOD! For the life of me, I cannot fathom why some reader(s) of this blog feel the urge to make a sophomoric comments about him on a daily basis.

There are 2 possibilities. 1. These readers think they are funny. They aren't. The joke is a bit tired by now. Let's stop beating that horse.

2. They really do hate Matt Perrault (a guy, by the way, they have likely never met) that much. This would be really sad.

No one forces you to listen to a program. I can't imagine caring enough about some guy on the radio that I would spew this sort of venom on a message board. Life is just too freakin' short, people.

Oh. Dear. God.

I just heard that The Perrault spoke at a marketing class at Creighton University. I had such a high opinion of this place until, well, now.

Maybe they are using him as an example on how NOT to market oneself in a new market. That can be the only explanation.

Oh, to 11:35 a.m. if talking about The Perrault bothers you so much, why did you feel the need to further defend and discuss him. I know that he is your son and everything The Perrault's mom, but, c'mon, even you have to admit he is a sniveling little brat don't you?

Anonymous said...

isn't there going to be a story on this hour long news cast? or are we just going to have to keep making up topics ourselves within old story comment sheets

I wish Sean and Jim would quit including stories on Perrault and then people would not have anything to beat him up over......but apparently, they are fans so we feel we have the responsibility to provide the dissenting viewpoint. I'm not surprised by the love for Perrault on by the mods on this board since he IS associated with TnT.....you know THE GREAT RADIO EMPIRE!!! (right Jim????)

To January 22, 2008 10:13 PM:

Let's agree that Sean and Jim should have no more than one story per month on Matt Perault. Would that make you happy? Oh wait . . . looks like there has been exactly one story about him since early December.

And, by the way, it isn't as if people are making comments about the substance of his program (which I generally don't care for, to be honest). I think that if we never saw another Matt Perrault story, we'd still have the junior high crowd making their usual sophomoric comments.

I am probably fighting a losing battle here. As they say, never argue with an idiot. He's better prepared and will wear you down with experience.

KETV debuted what I assume is their new Lincoln reporter today, Adrian Whitsett. From a quick google he seems to be 2006 UNL grad. His package was a little substandard; voice was ok, but his writing was stilted and raw. His live hit at the end from their capital bureau was a train wreck.
It looks like he has some promise, I am surprised they would bring on someone that raw for that job.

Here he goes again. The Perrault is on the radio, exclaiming that the swimming trials have "sold out hotels all the way to Grand Island!" A listener (one of the dozen that does pay attention) emailed him and said you may want to check on that.

Sure enough, plenty of rooms available.

The Perrualt quickly backtracked and said, "Well, there are only three-star hotels left in Omaha."

Nice job Bill Clinton, Jr. You got caught in a lie once again. Pathetic.

Anonymous said...

...and this has what to do with this post...?

Anonymous said...

There are only three-star hotels left because's there's only one four-star hotel IN THE ENTIRE STATE OF NEBRASKA. Please tell me he wasn't serious. What a gigantic tool.

Anonymous said...

Gigantic? No. Pathetic like a three year old crying for attention. Yes indeed. The Perrault is indeed that.

Anonymous said...

Perrault is still on the air?

Anonymous said...

WOW! I haven't been on here in a long time and now I remember why. By the way, Station Employee isn't S.D. So cut her some slack. It's a male reporter. I'd recognize that tone anywhere.

Anonymous said...

I happened upon this website by accident and thought I'd post a comment. After reading some of the many hostile comments about news anchors, I'm appalled that people actually have so little of a life that they blog about all the idiosyncrasies of a news station and its employees. But I digress!

Last year, Julie Cornell conducted a series of stories on me and my lifelong battle with Tourette Syndrome. What started as a story, ended up as a great friendship with a truly humble and loving family....the Randby's. I've been fortunate to know Julie now for over a year. In that time, I have come to know someone who truly cares about people and desires to touch their lives in any way she possibly can. Her husband Bill is as classy and friendly as they come. He is truly the optimist he appears while doing weather. I have had the privilege of playing golf with Bill and he is as down to earth as they come. Their family embraced mine and vice versa. I am proud to call Bill and Julie my friends and I wish Julie the best as she seeks a life now with her family. I also wish Brandi the best. She is also a very humble and friendly person. She is already doing a fabulous job at the anchor desk and she will no doubt take her career to new heights.

In closing, I'd like to congratulate Julie, Mike Richard, and the rest of the KETV team on their recent Emmy award. They are all fabulous people doing a fabulous job. I'm thankful to know them and to have gained their friendship.

Now, the rest of you, GET A LIFE! :)

Where is Andrea Bredow I havent seen her latley :(

Anonymous said...

Andrea Bredow's name isn't on the Stations news team anymore. My guess was she was fired, because I don't remember seeing anything on TV about her leaving. Can't say that is a big loss though.

Anonymous said...

On First News, they mentioned that it was her last day. I had to head out the door before they said why. She was a great morning meteorologist.

Anonymous said...

The place fell apart after they lost Bredow. Andrea was the only good thing that station had. Now it's just a joke and all three channels are the same exact feel and look. They should have given Andrea anything to get her to stay.
