Time For Sweeps

Get ready for a barrage of cross-promotion, radio advertisements and "special investigations." Today marks the start of the Nielsen Media Research TV ratings month.

KMTV-3 reporter Mary Williams made the rounds on Journal Broadcast Group-owned stations this morning, inviting listeners to tune in tonight to "Take the bully test."

As long as WOWT gives us another update on the epidemic of pot holes in the Heartland, they should win hands down.

"Take the Bully Test?" How about the "How Shitty of a Newscast Do You Have" test????

Breaking News.
It looks like KETV is going to start sweeps without its main anchor.
I saw McCartney being helped out of a local outpatient center this morning and he didn't look too good.
I don't expect he'll be on the thursday night news.
Anybody know what is going on there?

.. that wasn't McCartney.. that was Britney

No one can pass my bully test. Why you little maggot, you make me want to vomit.

These people better stay away from my beloved Corps.

Looks like I'll have to warm up the KXVO and Comedy Central. Self-absorbed news anchors will be stroking their egos for a while.

Didn't one of the other stations run a "bully" series recently? Not to say imitation isn't the sincerest form of flattery, but sometimes originality goes a long way too....

Just when you think the sweeps stories can't get any stupider...somebody at KM comes up with a new low. It is a tribute to Mary Williams and her mannered delivery that she could promote this story with a straight face.

My theory is clear: You haven't passed the bully test until you've been served with a restraining order.

The folks at Channel Six are sweating nervously. They have realized that there are 29 days in February this year. And so far, they'll only been able to find 22 old people who have been targeted by scams.

I'd like to fart in the face of that n.d. at 3rd for allowing that story.

Yeah, I can't wait for "Flatty" Peterson's uplifting story on losing weight.

Rule #1 for keeping a ratings lead: Don't tell your audience you think they're fat.

Thank God for ESPN and VH1 Classic...

whats the story on brandi calling somebody fat on tv?

Did anyone else catch the new weather graphics on WOWT?

They remind me of KPTM's weather graphics theme - the busier, the better.

And they were showing Flowers' feet. Suppose he get a contract for modeling footwear?

Now (in)precision weather has changed to "your weather authority" on 6, though they term it "hour by hour forecast" I think the new colors are very pretty. nothing else has changed, though. flowers is STILL there.

nothing could be more lame than John Knicely's ground-breaking report on a day in the life of a mom. Give me a break!

Maybe that's why Mccartny was in the hospital, lame sweeps stories made him sick!

I liked the new maps on Ch. 6's weather last night. At least there's some effort there, as opposed to Randby putting the word COLD up on a blank blue screen & that's it! Could you be any lazier???

I was at my sister's and she was watching the Six news and we both laughed out loud at Jim showing off his footwear.

Because, when they do the part where they show the city background along with the forecast, it appeared as if Jim Flowers was standing on the Missouri River. Literally walking on water.

It was a hoot.

Jesus starts with a "J" and Jim starts with a "J". Coincidence...I think not...

It's the Huckabee "cross" thing going on there...it was all unintentional.

Anonymous said...

Your Weather Authority: Jim Flowers, the Heartland's most experienced (and least accurate) meteorologist.

Anonymous said...

I'm waiting for next year when the Huskers loose to Missouri and Jim Flowers is standing on the map jumping up and down yelling,"take this Tiger fans I'm stomping on you. And now for more heartland big red reaction let's go to Webs."

Or perhaps they'll LOSE to Missouri....

I think KETV's got the team. Besides Hammond and Fazal and moving Brandi to 5pm it seems like its working. And what about the new chick Marla Rabe? Wow.

Here's wishing Rob McCartney the best... any sort of surgery sucks.

If he's out for awhile, who's KETV going to partner with Julie? They really don't have a groomed male backup anchor (as they have in a groomed female backup anchor with Brandi Peterson).

Would Julie keep anchoring solo? Would they move John Oakey to nights? Oakey's been around longer than Todd Andrews. He's more polished, too, in my opinion.

Who's left after Oakey and Andrews? Owen Lei?

Maybe expand the 5 pm Julie and Brandi show to 6 and 10 pm as well?

Who said Rob was sick the poster was anonymous

anonymus posters have no credit

If he really was sick don't you think KETV would have said something?

Anonymous said...

ajwees @ 7:44 am - Nope. Why? A few years ago WOWT said nothing of Dave Webber's months-long extended absence until he returned. Turned out he'd had some minor strokes.

I think even a few years before that Rob had been in and out a lot, then was out for awhile, and then right after he got back he MC'd some event for a Chron's Disease group and announced he had the disease himself... anyone else remember this?

ajwees said...

Didn't one of these news sites either Sean,or the other guy who had made a mention when JJ Davis was out on sick leave?

TVLand said...

I remember something about Rob getting Chron's, and I think it laid him out pretty good. I don't know much about that illness but I hear it can keep coming back.
Something must be up or else he wouldn't have missed the start of sweeps.

ajwees said...

I think I heard he going to be on Sunday with a report if I heard right.

Todd Andrews should NEVER anchor anything...the guy tries so hard to be hip and cool, and it's uncomfortably amusing how pathetic he looks when he says anything not already loaded on the teleprompter.

Somebody should remind Andrews that the next time he has a thought, to just let it go so nobody gets hurt...

Anonymous said...

Andrews side burns to hair: "get a hair cut".

What the hell is the deal with Rachel pierce? Is she dumber than a post or is it just her bad dental work that's annoying me?

And is Andrea Breadloaf contractually prohibited from saying "Lincoln"? It's always "the capital city." I've heard her say Lincoln maybe twice in the last year. Ridiculous that this blob has a job.
