KPTM To Add Newscast

KPTM-42 is joining the 4 p.m. newscast race in the coming weeks. KPTM, the local Fox affiliate, will join WOWT-6, previously the only local station to offer a 4 p.m. newscast.

However, while WOWT has a 30-minute offering, KPTM will present a one-hour 4 p.m. newscast, according to News Director Joe Radske.

“We’re building a new set, and that set was to be installed the first week in September,” Radske said this week. “As these new sets go, sometimes the installers take a few more days than they anticipated. We want to make sure we get on the new set and rehearse on it and make sure we’re all in line before we launch the show.”

KPTM’s 9 p.m. news anchors, Taylor Wilson and Amanda Mueller, will also anchor the 4 p.m. newscast. Radske said meteorologist Tyson Pearsall will also be part of the 4 p.m. newscast, with some limited sports from J.J. Davis.

Wow. I guess 42 is running out of syndication and infomercials.

The new set is taking longer than expected to build?

Yeah, I understand it takes longer for paper mache to dry in this humid weather.

Also, "some but limited sports." Well, most high school sports practices start at 3:30 - 4:00 p.m. so he can't get back to the studio with his Fan of the Day segment for the 4 p.m. newscast.

A new set. Yes, that's the ticket. Without a new set it would just seem like the same crap Pap-ass has always dished out as "news". Thank god for the new set.

Agree about the "new set" excitement over at 42. Local news IS cheaper to produce than buying syndication. Just run 6 or 7 national packages and you've got a FOX news hour.
Look how new graphics & 2 high priced anchors have turned the ratings around for KM!! Oh, wait.....

can this be true? A new set. which college did they get to donate their old set?

Mabey KPTM can donate their old set to WOWT.

They missed the boat again. An opportunity for the first all female all nude newscast in Omaha history. An opportunity missed........

Good to hear that they are doing a 4pm. I respect their 9pm cast, considering the crap equipment they work with and the peanuts they pay their production staff. I would honestly say I respect that outfit more then the big six at this point.

Say what you will about their past, their future is looking pretty good, judging from their new website.

On a recent business trip, I had a chance to catch the other Pappas station in Fresno - Fox Channel 6 KMPH. Even the logo was the same as well as the station tagline "We're Your Station."

Ol' Harry is so cheap he won't even spring for separate marketing campaigns.

It now makes sense how bad some of the equipment & stuff is on KPTM.

It must have been hand-me downs from the days when TV sets actually had vacuum tubes.

The crappy quality of KPTM's video looks like cutting edge digital recordings compared to the Fresno station's "filmed" segments.

Yes, it appears numerous news segments were actually filmed.

My only question was it one of those film cameras that had the two metal magazine reels on top of it or was it one of the WWII surplus cameras the war reporters used to capture the various events such as invasion landings, etc.

Its unfortunate the Fox broadcasting company allows this guy to claim to be a Fox station.

PS - Nice job, Fresno Channel 6 showing the same 3 commercials repeatedly for 10 minutes following Thursday night's NFL preseason game.

It wasn't like they had to try to catch a network signal for a summer repeat of House or 24 or When Bears Attack - no it was a local syndicated episode of M*A*S*H.

And it was even the Colonel Potter years. Ugh, I hated them.

But what about my People's Court from 4 to 5???

If you think that KPTM is bad you havent seen NTV out of Kearney, KHAS out of Hastings or KMEG out of Souix City. Even KLKN out of Lincoln pales in comparsion to KETV and the other big stations. KPTM is not as bad as people say but it can always improve.

KPTM has good news but bad shows during the day when the other stations use their networks for soap operas, network news, game shows ect that arent even that good. FOX only programs during prime time like the CW, and ION.

KPTM has a quality news product that is every bit as good as any of the other stations in town. They're professional and the delivery is done well, and yes, there is always room for improvement as one of the previous posters said. However, improvement is not only a word needed at KPTM, it should be a catchword for ALL the stations in Omaha. I have yet to see one that is completely perfect. But then what is?

KPTM is doing what the other stations have done in the past, growing. KETV not so long ago had just an plain set and ACTION 3 had an myrid of failing formats, give KPTM time. KPTM is as old as the other stations would have been in the 1970's. For not having national news they are doing good.

K P T M how about new calls? KFXO?

who are you people??? Obviously none of previous posters have worked at a Pappas station. Put it to you this way - if the Omaha stations were siblings... First the twins. KETV is the good looking bitchy/stab you in the back twin sister, WOWT is the no personality Eagle scout twin brother. KMTV is the middle brother - the ADHD suffering sibling has a nasty case of ants in his pants. And lastly, is KPTM - the retarded little brother. He's embarassing to take to the mall. But you still have to love him...

ALLELUIA!!! They Finally get a 4 pm Newscast. The next thing I cannot wait for is their morning show because they are hiring an AM Meterologist and Morning Anchor.
