From the Notebook

Travis Justice has joined Matt Perrault on "The Big Show" on Big Sports 590. Justice's own morning radio show, which aired from 9 to 11 a.m., has been replaced by "Out of Bounds" from Fox Sports Radio with hosts Craig Shemon and James Washington... The "Average Joe Sports Show" on Lincoln's KLMS (1480 AM) from 3 to 6 p.m. is no more, to be replaced by a still-to-be-announced program which will beginning this Friday.

Omaha World-Herald Assistant Managing Editor Jeff Carney explained the problems the newspaper encountered Monday in a story in Tuesday's editions. Carney wrote that the newspaper's electrical troubles at its printing plant (the Freedom Center) first surfaced during routine maintenance and inspection of an emergency backup power supply. When the primary system was put back online, the computerized pagination automatization and data management system failed. The Kansas City Star and Lincoln Journal Star newspapers pitched in to print about 200,000 papers.

Omaha's KMTV and Lincoln's KLKN will broadcast the 42nd annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon this weekend. KMTV will begin its coverage of the 21.5-hour program at 7 a.m. Monday, while KLKN will begin its broadcast Sunday at 10:35 p.m. Last year's telethon raised more than $61 million.

Saturday's Nebraska football game against Nevada will be a regional broadcast on ABC. The team of Dan Fouts (play-by-play), Tim Brant (color) and Todd Harris (sideline) will handle the announcing. On the Husker Sports Network (radio), Jim Rose will handle play-by-play, Adrian Fiala and Matt Davison will provide color commentary and Sean Callahan and Lane Grindle will handle the sideline broadcasting duties.

I see that the trends for 590 are now at 1.0. Hey Matthew, care to defend this one? And please don't contradict your self like you have in the past with your various and diverse statements on internet sites.

Finally, someone at Journal realized Travis Justice did not belong on the radio talking sports or anything for that matter. Now they need to realize that he is not good talking sports on tv either and replace him with someone who is good at covering local sports. If it wasn't for Todd n Tyler, Trav would be asking if you wanted to super size your combo meal.

Ah, c'mon guys...Trav's not that bad, is he?

I'll give Perault some credit. He does get a lot of mentions on web sites considering he doesn't have a lot of listeners on the radio.

All 590 did was rearrange the deck chairs on a sinking ship.

Has anyone said officially why the change was made. I do not listen to Matt's show alot, but I do listen if Kugler and Severe are droning or taking callers. I think Travis is a bad mix to that show. Matt annoys enough people all by himself--he certainly does not need Travis' help. I guess it will all things Husker-bashing, Bluejays, and RedSox from here on out.

There was no official reason. The reason, of course, was ratings. Trav had none. Matt has some. Matt has now started to suck up to Husker fans so maybe the needle will move from utter failure to merely a debacle.

I have noticed a change in his tone vis a vis the Huskers. However, he lets his guard down sometimes when he and Trav are talking and slips up. You know, I don't expect everyone to be the Husker fan I am, but on a local talk show, I don't really expect them to relish trashing the team either.

They are even a little more brutal on the Huskers Mens BB team and Doc Sadler. I am sure that is due to them not wanting to offend their base....although I think the Jays could do much better.

So we shall see how this plays out. I think it will flop and 590 will sink further behind 1620..although 1620 could do better as well...Kugler and Severe just don't seem to mesh.

Can someone please hire Kevin Kugler to take the place of Jim Rose and give him a decent set of commentators? Please. Won't be listening to Husker football again this year.

12:15-

One thing I've noticed about Perault and message boards is that usually he's actually posting in the thread. If he doesn't go in and instigate, does he get brought up? Serious question...

I post interviews and upcoming guests on line. Otherwise, I never post UNLESS I'm brought up.

Like this one....and I always sign my name unlike you guys.

Thanks for the obession.

Matt, why don't you focus on your job, rather then spend time worrying about what the kids are saying down the hall? I've never encountered such a "media-type" (and I use that term VERY loosely) get so worked up over what other people thought.

They teach that to single "A" ballplayers on day one. Don't listen to the drunken fans and boo-birds.

Trav's show isn't off the air...

he's just in the middle of one of his enormously, extra-large, pregnated pauses

Tune in sometime around mid February and he'll finish the sentence about the CWS.

Matt's mom will search you guys out!!! Leave her son alone!

I tuned in briefly on Friday and Trav was already on and they were talking about lesbians ALREADY!
Trav, this isn't the Todd n Tyler show....it's a sports show.

Jason Peter is joining "The Spread" on KLMS 1480 in Lincoln starting Friday at 3 p.m.

So, Matthew. What is the official reason for the change? How do you now defend you 1.0 trend? Do you still hate the Husker basketball team? Are you still a fan of Creighton even during the off season? I would ask you about your ex-girlfriend but I don't want you to go on every website on the world wide web and ask people not to post about it anymore.

I post anonymously, because I am not a media whore and do not desire the attention. Still hoping to get an 'official' reason for the change. My guess is that Trav's show was sucking wind, Matt's show at least gets some ratings due--imho--to the lack of competition, and so they dropped the one to try to pick the other up. The problem with 590 is that it is not "Big Sports", it is "Big Jay Sports". While the Jays deserve some attention, they are not the biggest sports item in town....nor will they ever be.

I love the Bluejay coverage personally. However, I do not care for radio that hangs up on callers, calls the caller dumb for having an opinon contrary to the host.

Any news on the July TV ratings?

Typical Husker fans can't take it when someone speaks poorly of their team...cry me a river and keep thinking you'll win another national title in football. It ain't happenin' folks. Perrault is correct in his assessments of that.

How long before Jim Rose is doing car ads as the former voice of the Huskers? Please tell me sooner rather than later!

Bring on Kugler to call the play by play!!!!! Please!!

New "The Spread" co-host Jason Peter appeared on the nationally syndicated "The Jim Rome Show" this afternoon.

I remember back in the day Jim Rome being hammered and carried out of the bar those Peter boys.

Who hammered Jim Rome? Why did they stop?
