Julie Cornell Steps Down As Anchor At KETV
KETV-7 co-anchor Julie Cornell announced live on the air this morning that she is leaving the anchor desk at KETV. Brandi Petersen will replace Cornell when she leaves at the end of the month. Petersen will join co-anchor Rob McCartney.
Cornell, whose husband Bill Randby will remain as KETV’s chief meteorologist, began at KETV in 1992. She has been one of the station’s main co-anchors for the past 11 years after replacing longtime KETV anchor Carol Schrader.
Cornell published a story on KETV.com explaining that she wants to become a fulltime mom.
“This year, our twin girls, Madeline and Jocelyn, will start kindergarten,” Cornell wrote. “Our son, Will, begins second grade. I've worked the night shift for most of my 21 years in broadcasting, and it doesn't mesh with the school schedule.
“So at the end of July, after 11 years as a main anchor at KETV, I'll step away from the anchor desk, because I want to be with my children at night. I'll continue to work a very flexible part-time schedule here at channel 7, write weekly stories for Julie's Diary on the KETV Web site and write feature stories for the news, as I have for 16 years here in Omaha.
“Brandi Petersen will take over the anchor desk next to my buddy, Rob. She's my friend. She's smart, level-headed and hard-working. Brandi is one of the finest live reporters I've seen on air. She loves this community and she's a tremendous asset to our station.”

I thought you basement-dwelling tools/drones/ass clowns said Carlo was gone from 3. How come he was on the TV last night with Carol Wang Chung last night? AFFIRMATIVE ACTION NEWS 3 CONTINUES TO RULE. They have Travis and no one else does, that guarantees gigantic ratings every book!
10:14 -- you obviously TOOK all of your meds at the same time if you think Inaction News 3 has gigantic ratings.

8:26 AM - the Friday night "lineup" isn't the same anymore as the other weeknights because their primary team now does the hour-long show at 10 PM on Sunday nights.

Is Farah Fazal still at KETV?
Tonight at 10 pm Todd Andrews was anchoring. I thought, ok, maybe he's subbing, but the taped intro to the 10pm news tonight showed his picture and announced him as anchor.
8:26 am - I noticed that too.
I wonder if he's picking up the weekday shifts that Brandi Peterson has been working opposite Julie Cornell... I guess we'll have to stay tuned to find out.
Farrah's bio is still on the web site. Perhaps she took...*gasp*...vacation time?

1:19 pm - There were two things in the 10 pm newscast I watched that *gasp* made me wonder if her absence is more than a standard vacation (unless you're talking about a "permanent" vacation):
1. Usually when an anchor takes vacation time, whoever is subbing says "I'm xxxxxx, in for [insert regular anchor's name here]." This didn't happen on the newscast I watched.
2 They usually don't replace the regular anchor's photo and name announcement in the taped intro to a newscast with the sub's picture and name.
Example for #2: In the past, if Brandi Peterson subbed for Julie Cornell during the weekday 6 pm newscast, the taped intro would still say "You're watching KETV NewsWatch 7 at Six with Rob McCartney and Julie Cornell" - but Brandi would introduce herself as "I'm Brandi Peterson, in for Julie Cornell", or "I'm Brandi Peterson; Julie has the night off" (or something to that effect).
And if you read the whole Shelia Brummer departure saga on this blog awhile back, you'd know that bios on web pages can take awhile to come down.
When you're done *gasp*-ing, take a moment to ponder that.
@ 3:19 PM - do you really think that any other news team besides the primary news team is considered "solid" with who is there and who isn't?
I mean, take, for example, the news team of Adrian Whitsett and Nichole Berlie. That's new, right?
Did you ever stop and think that, perhaps there's some other shuffling going on aside from the primary news team?
Several of the "secondaries" (for lack of a better term) have been in and out of the anchor seat and the reporting beat. Whisett and Berlie have. Andrews has. Fazal has.
Who knows? Maybe if what is currently being done is "it" at this point, that might just mean Fazal is back to reporting only. Doesn't necessarily signal that she's out on the pavement, though.
As for the Shiela Brummer bio thing? Remember, we're talking about KETV here and not WOWT.

My original post wonders about the whereabouts of Farah Fazal, then you chastize me for thinking anything other than that she's on vacation, then go on in your next post to chastise me for not thinking that "perhaps there's some other shuffling going on aside from the primary news team"... Which, if you weren't too busy *gasp*ing, you'd realize was actually what I was wondering about in my original post.
Since you need it spelled out in baby steps, read on...
OF COURSE there's going to be shuffling other than the primary anchor team!! Duh, someone or some someones are going to have to step up to fill Brandi's previous spot.
From an outsider's standpoint looking at KETV's talent pool, who other than Farah was in the competition with Brandi for main female anchor? The already knew Elictia Hammond's plans. Other than Farah, which female on-air talent had close to the same seniority as Brandi? (other than, of course, Carol Kloss - who maybe didn't want the job?)
So, if we were to speculate that Farah and Brandi were in competition for the job, and Farah didn't get it, wouldn't it make sense that Farah would start looking around for other opportunities at this time? Take a look down memory lane at WOWT when Pat Persaud left. Tracey Madden got the job and shortly thereafter Courtney Gerrish left for another station. And 'round about the sametime Kara Rovere got married and found a different job.
As far as solidity goes... I'd think that station management would consider a new anchor team "solid" or "solid enough" before approving the expense to remake the taped intro to include new anchors at the beginning of the newscast. If the plan was to try out a variety of teaming arrangements over the next couple of months, you think the intro would just be a generic "You're watching KETV NewsWatch 7 at [insert time]" until they pick who's going to get the gig regularly.
And regarding your comment "As for the Shiela Brummer bio thing? Remember, we're talking about KETV here and not WOWT." Well, how long did Melissa Fry work at KETV before her bio got posted? Using your (il)logic, you're saying Melissa really didn't work there until her bio appeared.
And if Farah really is *just* on vacation, well... the emotion in your posts goes to show what a loyal fan base Farah has here in the Omaha market. We'll all anxiously await her return.
Here's the scoop. Farrah is back to only reporting. She is not a good anchor. Todd moves from weekend mornings to Friday-Saturday evening anchor. They needed someone to replace Julie and it made sense to move Farrah as well. The Nicole-Adrian thing is not permanent. At least not yet. My guess is he stays on weekend mornings and Nicole moves to weekday mornings. To even think Farrah had a shot at being the main anchor is laughable. There was only ONE choice and that was Brandi. No one, not even Elictia was considered. It was Brandi from day one.

In my original post I wondered if a staffing change had been made on the Saturday 10 pm news. Looks like I was right.
9:12 am - I've fallen behind on watching News on 1. Did KETV really beat WOWT's Mike McKnight to the counterfeit purse story? Though, I guess it would have been hard for McKnight to go to a purse party "undercover"...(will picturing McKnight in drag make you go blind????)
If memory of past rumors serves me correctly, one of KPTM's "Former" male reporters would have been very very good at going undercover at one of those purse parties

I wouldn't mind seeing the Nicole-Adrian pairing permanent, or at least being given a chance for six months or so. They seem to do well enough next to each other. Adrian still smiles like a kid who just got a new bike - I assume because he's happy to have the anchoring opportunity. Nicole's usually smiling when I see her anchoring. That's good - a morning newscast should project a positive, energetic vibe.
The big question is if Omaha area viewers would accept a non-white anchor team. (For example, an earlier post on this blog said that watching them seemed like watching BET.)

Julie Cornell's final newscast was done with a bit more taste than Channel 6 did with Pat Persaud. At least they waited until the final segment instead of pre-empting the entire newscast. Looks like the staff actually liked her, too.
I just hope Brandi Petersen will take this opportunity and not let her look get in the way. She's damn good at being an anchor and reporter, so she (or Hearst-Argyle management) should invest in a wardrobe that doesn't make her look she's wearing Suzanne Deyo's old wardrobe. Otherwise, blog readers and bloggers (like me) will slaughter her with commentary, not to mention what Brockman will write on HIS blog.
This topic is over 2 weeks old. I like the O.Newscope blog so far. I also wondered about Carlo Checetto?? (however he spells it) at KM3. I commented on the other blog, too, but I want this blog to find out more about the new guy coming from KCTV. That's where multi-loser Michael Scott went to--and was fired from. I wish I was a fly on the walls at 3 and 7 to hear the stories about Mr. Scott's, shall we say, bad habit?
Off topic, I know. So let me say that Julie Cornell's exit was handled with taste tonight. Will we also see a new set anytime soon? The "newsplex" is looking quite dated. Those old-time monitors in the background are so 80's, and that mural is outdated, too.
More stories on this blog, please. Otherwise, I'll just have to read Brockman's blog (who also needs to post more) and O.Newscope (which I hope lasts longer than the others that have come and gone.)

I agree. That purple outfit Brandi's wearing in the taped intro to the news looks like something out of the "Bewitched" wardrobe... maybe something Samantha's mother would wear.
Kerri Stowell....you have got to be kidding. She has this mouth thing going on like she has to pronounce things to the extreme.....it is so annoying and so weird.
Brandi Perterson will do a great job she is young and very level headed and is interested in Omaha.

Julie disappeared so quickly without much notice. They wanted a younger pretty blond. However, Julie is not as hyper as Brandi. Brandi seems all wound up and ready to explode when she reports.
Well, I seem to remember that when Julie came to KETV she demanded that her husband get a job before she would accept the position. Carol Schrader was forced out of the position for the younger Julie so it is hard to feel sorry for her. KETV can be mean to anchors.
