The "career fairs" are just a way to fill up EEO requirements. There are no jobs really available, unless you want to move to western Nebraska.

Exactly, and if there are jobs available, they're either in sales or in Western Nebraska.

I wish more people would catch on to these station "career fairs" as a way to fill-up on EEO requiremens. Has any "journalist" or "broadcaster" actually been hired in Omaha because they dropped-off resumes at a bunch of different booths at a career fair? "Next on Action 3 News, two weeks ago, he was working at Runza. Now, our newest Action 3 reporter emerges from his mom's basement to bring you a live report from the scene of a grisly shooting in North Omaha..." Good luck with that. Kids, choose a different field, like nursing or lawn care. Qualified applicants only. Don't call us, we'll call you.

There are several jobs in at a television station that aren't on-air positions. Many production positions, sales jobs, etc. will be discussed at the fair, I would assume.

Usually true but one company Connoisseur Media, LLC does not even have a format for their yet to be built omaha FM.

WOWT needs all the talent that they can get. And how many open jobs does KVSS have?

Sean/Anyone Else:

Not that this has anything to do with the above post, but did anyone notice Scott Lee's (Lea) report on Springfield last night? It was in regards to the Simpson's. (Channel 42) There was a blurb underneath his name that stated quite innocuously "Scott Lea as Ted Brockman." Just wondered what that was all about.

An opportunity for all the whiners on this board to actually attempt to get a job in the local media they bitch about & perhaps make changes for the better and all that's posted is, "there won't be any jobs there".
Guess Taco Bell won't let y'all off your shifts today, huh?
Bebop, you could get a job as a producer and fill newcasts daily with your ideals and agendas! But that would probably mean you'd have to leave your computer screen for a few hours each day - too bad the rest of Omaha (outside of the 20 people who post here regularly) won't be able to be enlightened by you. I guess you can always rely on Barely a Pulse for your soapbox de jur....

Well said! It'd be nice if these people realized that the media is only giving the people what they want. If you want change, as the immortal Ray Bradbury said; "stop watching the mirror that sits in your living room, call your station managers and demand change. But ultimately what we watch is us." Pick up a book and read for god's sake.
