KMTV-3 co-anchor Carlo Cecchetto has left the station for “personal family reasons,” according to Ken Dudzik, news director at KMTV.Cecchetto, at left, joined KMTV in Jan. 2007, debuting with another new co-anchor Carol Wang, middle. Wang will remain with the station.
Wang will be joined by Craig Nigrelli, who will co-anchor the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts.
Nigrelli, at right, has more than a decade of anchoring and reporting experience, most recently with KCTV5 in Kansas City, Mo. His first day on-air at KMTV will be today, August 4.
“Craig’s strong background, and experience with late-breaking and investigative news, will serve our viewers well,” Rob Burton, vice president and general manager of Journal Broadcast Group’s Omaha operations, said in a press relese. “We’re excited to be adding him to our Action 3 News team.”
Nigrelli’s career began in 1993 as a general assignment reporter for WIVB-TV in Buffalo, N.Y. He later anchored the station’s weekend morning show. In 2000 he moved to Albuquerque, N.M., to work as an enterprise reporter and morning show anchor at KOAT-TV, before moving to KSTP-TV in Minneapolis in 2004. A year later he was hired at KCTV5.
Nigrelli is a graduate of Rutgers University with a B.A. in communication and economics.

ReplyDeleteNigrelli is coming from another tabloid-style station, so he should fit in well at Action 3 News. Too bad that means the powers that be at KMTV are continuing with the same failed format of screaming news at lightening speed, with the same failed team that failed to catapult the station out of the third- and almost-fourth-place slot.
ReplyDeleteI might be wrong, and nothing would please me more than seeing KMTV beat WOWT in a ratings battle, but it just ain't gonna happen with the team and the format A3N has right now. Nigrelli will be another casuality of the situation.
Here's some free advice: get rid of Travis Justice, Dave Roberts and Devon Patton. Then, tone down the sensationalism level and don't look like you're so desperate for viewers. Confidence and competence will get you moving up the ladder.
One last comment: with this blog becoming the JBG marketing site, it is no wonder so many are either leaving frustrated, rude, and inappropriate comments OR are going to other blogs (like Ted Brockman's at OMAHA TV NEWS, or even mine at ONEWSCOPE) that scruitinize the local media instead of just paying lip service.
i was flipping through and caught the news this weekend on 3. WOW!chriss knight at the desk, liz doing weather and molli graham in the field. what a perfect combo. i don't care what the format is, i'll watch any show with those beautiful ladies gracing the screen! Good job action 3 for that. did anyone else catch it, or was i just dreaming?! is this a permanent change?

the most (in)famous is the Omaha TV News blog (omanews.blogspot.com). It's okay, but look back to the archives when it used to be sizzling. Caused a lot of ruckus in the newsrooms.
there's also one called O Newscope (onewscope.blogspot.com). That one is new and seems to copy the Omaha TV News format to an extent.
Those are the only 2 I know of still being published.

His divorce is still not final and he'd prowled the bar scene to sleep with half of Omaha, women who were 10-15 years younger, and he started fights at bars and should've been ticketed with public indecency, public intoxication and DUIs. He insulted just about every other anchor/reporter at his station and in Omaha because he really thinks he awesome because he's going back to a larger market. GOOD RIDDANCE!!!

ReplyDeleteNo other place to put this, but it's freekin' hysterical. This past Sunday, watching a station out of Des Moines about 8 a.m.... classic blonde weather bimbo doing the so called forecast. Behind her, like at every station that morning, is the word HOT in mile high red letters. Except in her case, where she was standing, she completely blocked out the T in HOT. Then a half ho later, she did the same thing. Too funny. If that doesn't wind up on a bloopers real, it will be tragic.
