Christmas Music: Which Station Will Be Next?
At least one person is tracking which radio stations in the upper Midwest are making the switch to an all-Christmas music format.
Star 104.5 (KSRZ) re-branded itself as "Omaha's Christmas Music Station" last week. According to Upper Midwest Broadcasting, KSRZ is the only radio station in Nebraska to have "flipped" formats. At least four stations in Minnesota have plans to broadcast Christmas music.
According to the site's archive section of Christmas music stations, six stations in Nebraska made the programming switch last year, including four in Omaha.

Wait a minute...I didn't know s**t could f**k. Has there been a discovery that I was unaware of? Woe is me.
Maybe it's just me but what is more annoying than Christmas music already is the sound of the Salvation Army Bells ringing all over the damn place already !!
Why dont they just say, "As a radio station, we give up!!!!"
The four stations in Omaha that switch to Christmas music are precisely the four that I listen to most often. The formats are similar. Do you suppose one of those donkeys would understand the concept of "counter-programming" and give us something besides Grandma getting flattened by a reindeer 24/7?
This may be the worst effect of "deregulation" and "concentration of media ownership". Not only has localization and variety gone by the wayside, we get tortured two months out of the year!
Scrooges
I'd like to beat the Dickens out of them!!!
Just the thought of you negative people getting nothing but a cold shoulder for Christmas warms the cockles of my heart!
Honestly! Can't some of you just lay off blasting everything for the holidays?
Pathetic bunch of lonely losers!
it warms my sub-cockles..
I'm just bitter...bitter cold that is...
I punch those F&$# bell ringers..I mean my God Helping peopl S*&^..!
" violence doesn't fix the problem, But I always feel better"
To "the grinch" and some of you others..who whizzed in your corn flakes this morning? Just turn the station or plug in your iPod or put in a CD. That's what I did and so did many of my friends.
Wouldn't you like to see a radio (and maybe even a TV station) just one year, take a stand. No Christmas music, no Christmas Stories, no references to Christmas of any kind. I'm not anti-Christmas....just anti "overdone schlock in the name of ratings because those suckers will watch and listen to anything". Now...if they would just show Calvert Collins' X-Rated Christmas special.
I agree with people here, the whole Christmas thing is way over done.
And it's all mind numbingly commercial. It's all about selling as much junk as possible. There's no religious feeling, o even any of that vague "good will toward men" stuff -- it's all about selling stuff.
It's a grinding, never ending infomercial.
And christmas media, the songs, the movies, the tv specials -- it's always the worst, hackiest, most uncreative stuff of the year. How many times can a sitcom do that whole dickens christmas carol thing? How do writers have the nerve to turn in something so uncreative?
If the whole thing started on dec. 20 or something, that would be fine. As it is, it's just awful.
Last year I took away KGOR's button on my car radio when they went all christmas music, and I never put it back.
Thank god for ipods and sirius, huh? And npr. God bless npr.
Oh, and lest we forget -- we don't really need bloated drug addicted right wing demagogues railing about the "war on christmas".
No one whizzed in corn flakes...it was Wheaties...
I Muslim...what is a poor Arab to do at this time of year?
1:51 Tune in to TNT mornings on Z-92 for the latest "Muslim Christmas Cavalcade","Christmas Travia", "Mary Williams Naked Christmas", and other seasonal frivolity. And....Happy Holidays to you and yours.
Ah shove it up your fa-la-la-la ya saps
I haven't laughed this hard in a LONG time...at least not at anything I heard ON the radio.
Christmas is bad news. It will topple our democracy.
At least for diversity sake, throw in Adam Sandler's three Chanauka songs. I can't get enough songs with dated references to Jewish celebrities.
God bless Sirius, I haven't had to listen to any local radio in about 2 years. And you know terrestrial radio is scared.. While oil companies merge and media companies merge and monopolize with no problem whatsoever, two little satellite radio companies wanting to merge becomes a complete struggle.
And thank goodness XM and Sirius weren't allowed to merge! If they had, then there would be no choice in satellite radio -- only ONE provider. Now that would have been a true monopoly!!
It looks like maybe there should be even MORE emphasis on Christmas! Maybe that would influence the current generation of parents with young children to hug them a little more often and show them there really IS some goodness left in the world. Most of the miserable losers who have put the "down on Christmas" crap here obviously either didn't grow up in a happy and loving home that celebrated Christmas, or just plain DIDN'T GROW UP!
I'm a Christian, and not ashamed to say it, nor am I ashamed to stand up for what I belive in or what I feel is right, no matter if it is the PC thing to do or not!

Oh save me Jesus. I don't think people are in favor of eliminating Christmas. If, for no other reason, people like that extra day off work.
But putting up Christmas junk and cranking up the Christmas music in late October or early November? Ugh, I end up being sick of it by about December 3rd.
J. Rowe.....the dark side is calling, Satan Claus in all his glory. Come be one with him. He knows you really prefer to be naughty....and with whom.

Happy Hanukkah!

I'm a Druid. But it's reformed Druid. We only pray at bushes. And i know what you're thinking...funny, he doesn't look Druish. Perhaps I am barking up the wrong tree in my efforts to branch out. I just wanna be leafed alone. This time of year, I am such a sap.
I have a question...will these stations continue to play Christmas music all the way through the Twelve Days of Christmas? (I believe that runs until January 5th offhand...)
I guess not.
Are any stations gonna go kwansah?
You guys are hilarious!!! There ought to be more posts like this one. Anyone remember the movie Santa Claus versus the Martians...? It's making me nostalgic. Sniff, sniff.
Oh, I'm not against Christmas, but I am against Xma$...the overly commercialized version of the holiday. Having the "buy buy buy", the music, the bell ringers shoved down our throats beginning around Nov 1st, nope...not gonna do it. I love Christmas...the little kids in all their excitement, the family time, the doing for others, the religious aspect. Just quit pounding us over the head with the capitalism of the holiday.
101.9 Should go all Christmas and then become Power 101.9 in Jan.
104.5 has made the plunge and then in jan. should really change there on air brand. The music is ok but STAR was not even cool brand in 1992, its so cheasy and tired
10:45 am - Maybe Power 106.9 will take up your challenge on 24x7 kwanza music...
It's only two to three months out of the year that people actually feel they have to be nice to one another. I like christmas music sometimes in the summer too if I feel like pretending it's winter and not so bloody hot but i'll put in a cd or something. Radio stations that play x-mas music all day christmas eve and christmas day fine but not all year long. Come on i'm not a scrooge just the oposite and even i think that is tooo much.
I personally enjoy turning on a radio station that has turned to Christmas music before Thanksgiving and goes through Christmas. Someone said just get out your CD's or Ipod, but if you are less fortunate and don't have those then it is nice to just be able to tune into a Christmas radio station. Remember we should celebrate Christmas all year long and the most important thing to remember is "Jesus is the reason for the Season".
