Former Omaha radio personality Chris Baker (the Edge and KKAR 1290 AM) is in hot water after comments he made about former NBA star Magic Johnson on his talk-show on KTLK-FM in Minneapolis.

Maybe the rumor is that he'll still be on BS 590, but that he's going back to Boston and will remotely broadcast from his Mom's basement, instead.

Baker was the best thing to ever hit Omaha radio. He was funny, insightful, edgy and entertaining. Not the same drech that continues to clog the airwaves.

Omaha World-Herald Cuts 51 Jobs
OMAHA, NE (November 12, 2008) – The Omaha World-Herald today cut 51 jobs from its payroll, about 7 percent of their employees, citing the increased cost of doing business combined with the world economic slump.
"This difficult choice is a careful action to protect our ongoing commitment to readers and advertisers," publisher Terry Kroeger said. The newspaper has experienced a nearly 50 percent increase in the cost of newsprint since this time last year, he said, while the paper's Web site with 15 million views last month is the region's leading online news site.
In making the announcement Kroeger said that the World-Herald is one of the best-read newspapers in the country, reaching 82 percent of the region's potential audience each month through a combination of the printed paper and their Web site, according to a Media Audit study.
I know one of the people who was fired, someone who had worked in Sports for 20 years, and didn't deserve this treatment. From my source, 10 of these firings will come from the newsroom.

On Channel 8 in Lincoln this morning, they had to go to the bullpen since their news reader apparently was blowing chunks off air. That was interesting.
Blowing chunks...the same thing most people do when they listen to The Perrault's radio show.

now the city weekly site is down...
what gives?
Speaking of sites being down, BS 590 took down its forums.
They botched it from the beginning.
The first one they had was cluttered with porn, herbal male enhancement and credit help spam.
The second one was promising, but the station did nothing to promote it. There was no presence of the on-air talent, as the too-often thin-skinned Perrault went with an offsite blog with what should have been forum postings.
And they did absolutely nothing in terms of actually moderating the board.
Memo to Journal. If you half-ass a message board and do NOTHING in terms of moderating it, of course you're going to wind up with something on it that some schoolmarm is going to complain about and you're going to wind up with a board cluttered with direct insults between board members in lieu of actual opinions on sports or anything.
It's not that hard to have a board moderated and they failed completely and utterly. A 100-percent total botch job that displays a definite level of contempt for the audience.
Yeah, having listeners be able to interact without Perrault interrupting them is such an awful idea.
Then again, maybe Journal thinks the constant unsavory mancrushing on Bill Belichick is a good thing.
