More to Come ...

KETV-7 and Cox Communications came to an agreement last Saturday (Sept. 15) to air the Notre Dame-Michigan and Nebraska-USC football games, as well as the NASCAR race on Sunday – all in HD and analog on Cox’s system. (See related story below).

Negotiations resumed today to determine if any further HD programming, or KETV’s analog signal, for that matter, will be carried by Cox. KETV has set a Sept. 30 deadline for the decision.

Look for more details in this week’s City Weekly newspaper.

Just a friendly reminder, this is a corporate decision by Hearst-Argyle, not KETV at the local level.

As a friendly reminder...do you really want to see Notre Dame in HD? Does a loss look better in HD?

Watching Nebaska in High Def made it very clear how badly they lost.

KETV7= buttheads

Other stations worked it out why cant they?

Because Hearst Argyle wants a cut of the coverter fee cox charges.

If that's the case, Cox ought to make the 1st digital cable box free and call Hearst Argyle's bluff. I'm sure Cox would have no problem adjusting their cable rates to make up the difference.

Monday Morning it's snow on Cox channel 9. You want to watch ABC programming, it's an antenna (cheapest route) or another provider.
Bet the local advertisers on 7 are gonna start looking for rebates real quick!
If Monday comes without a 'last-minute-agreement' which both Cox & Hearst will try and spin that they were the ones to solve this impasse.

According to the KETV 10 PM news tonight (Wed, Sep 25), "ABC HD programming" is now available on Cox channel 806.

A short, quick announcement without any details.

I thought it was interesting that they said "ABC HD programming"... does that mean that locally-produced HD content on KETV won't be available? Or that KETV doesn't produce any HD programming of its own?

They did mention that the agreement was betweek KETV's parent company and Cox... making it sound like KETV itself had nothing to do with the decision.
