'Empire' Strikes Again

As longtime darlings of Omaha radio, Todd Brandt and Mike Tyler continue to branch out with their Omaha-based morning radio show. The duo, which originates from Z-92 (KEZO-FM), has been simulcasting its 5:30-10 a.m. weekday show to stations in Wichita, Kan., and Springfield, Mo., since Nov. 2006. This week, the popular No. 1-rated duo (in the Omaha market) announced an agreement with Envision Radio Networks, a syndication specialist with offices in Cleveland and New York City.

Envision calls Todd and Tyler’s show “an engaging highly customizable syndicated morning show targeting 25-54 year old men.

“From news to love advice, politics to sports and everything in between, the conversation is smart, real and irresistible to men and women alike.”

“Envision will be the syndication company that we are working with to offer the (Todd and Tyler) show to other stations around the country,” said Steve Wexler, executive vice president of television and radio operations for the Journal Broadcast Group, which owns Z-92 and the stations in Wichita and Springfield.

Wexler said that will include airing Todd and Tyler on radio stations not owned by the Journal Broadcast Group.

Said T&T: “After 15 years together, we’re very excited to be on board with Envision Radio Networks as we take the next step. We knew Envision was the best partner we could have to launch us into national syndication.”

  1. Isn't their show "milked" down enough? It's bad enough that they regionalized their banter to the midwest, now it'll be nothing more than nationalized pap. I tuned out 6-months ago.

    Thank God for my iPod...

  7. I haven't listened in TnT in a long time so I gave them a listen 2 weeks ago. How can they be syndicated when it sounds like they have given up? I used to really like them. Now they are dull, boring, and bored.

  8. Drech, nothing but drech. Thank goodness for satellite radio to get any kind of quality radio.

  12. @ 11:54 AM...Agreed.

Aside from Jim Rome over my lunch hour and Unsportsmanlike Conduct on the drive home from work, I pretty much stick to my CDs.

Definitely not missing anything, it sounds like.

  13. I liked when they talked about local stuff, but I wish them the best of luck making wads of cash.

  14. One step closer to national syndication... Which goes to show that any no talented person can make it if they go after the lowest common denominator. I wonder though if they do go national would they stay in Omaha or move to a bigger market?

    ReplyDelete
  15. This is so typical. A home based team is making good on their product by taking it national and you people start bashing it. Maybe you can't stand that they are moving forward while you sit at your cubicle doing the same thing you were doing years ago? I'm proud of these guys for living the dream and frown upon those of you who clutch to your iPods while giving up on a local product, however it may have evolved.

  16. Amen, Rusty.

I left several years ago to pursue my dream of hosting game shows. Everyone in Omaha bagged on me then.

  20. So maybe the Omaha cash cow is drying up for TnT... so they're moving on to pastures with more green ca$h in them...

So what WOULD happen if they moved out of the Big O? How long would Z92 keep broadcasting their show? How long before Z92 brings in a new morning team of newbies... we all know newbies are much cheaper!

  21. The Todd and Tyler Empire will foil all you satellite/ipod fans. Just wait for reruns of our show to air on the XM 80s channel. Right after Casey Kasem's Top 40 of this week in 1987. Ha Ha Ha

If this is true, why are Weenie & the Butt's ratings falling in Omaha? Just another press release for Mr. Minge to cut & paste into this "column". Shouldn't Channel 7 be sending one out soon???
Do they still bring in that druggie that does the Funny Bone about every other week? What about the fart jokes, you don't get much better than that! Guess if you pander to the lowest common denominator in radio it's a successful formula. Something to be very proud of!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Farts are soooooo funny...And they smell

    ReplyDelete
  27. So, Rusty, just because they're local means the topic of their crappy show is immune from criticism? Just because it's in Omaha means it has to be blindly supported, no questions asked? Are the people in Pennsylvania, the market they came from, also supposed to goose step Rusty style? Yep, nothing wrong with that.

  28. Nearly 5 months of dropping trends to the point were Q 98 is tied with them...

Strike while the iron is hot boys, because the future in Omaha is over.

  29. I love mike's Mom!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Congratulations, guys, you deserve the chance to expand and meet new listeners. With Envision's assistance, the show can succeed in ways it couldn't with just JBG.

Dominating the Omaha airwaves for the last ten years must have been fun, and I trust KEZO won't drop their ratings winner even if TnT move to a larger city.

For those who don't want a new ballpark for the CWS, Todd and Tyler are right: you are idiots, morons, etc.

Those of you who think retreating in to the comfort of your iPod libraries is better or more enjoyable than listening to a top-rated talk show, I salute you. You're all right; human interaction is over-rated. Who knows? As you get older, you may see a nude woman without having to pay first.

Get a life, anonymous morons. Not everyone needs to be a fan of 89.7

    Grow some.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Perhaps us "idiots" don't want a new ballpark because we realize that WE are going to have to pay for it down the road. Perhaps us "idiots" are a bit tired of the taxes that we already pay. Perhaps us "idiots" would like to know what was really said by the NCAA before we went down this path. Mike Fahey has been less than truthful with us "idiots" from the start of this. He needs to come clean on everything.

Also; if this is such a popular idea and the majority support this stadium; why not vote on it? Answer: because the support is not truly there. Fahey knows this and he fears the public vote.

By the way, I am an economist and I can tell you that this stadium is a very poor idea at this time.

    Nuff Said.

    ReplyDelete
  32. God help us all...

    ReplyDelete
  33. College Boy, please quit smoking the dope and take a lesson in simple economics. The stadium plan does not add up.

    ReplyDelete
  34. How bouts we build us a walkin' bridge to Council-tucky while we're at it... oops, already done that one.

    -- Ima Idiot

P.S. I thems TNT guys! Makes me wanna jack my sack.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I would say listening to an iPod and listening to a radio show is roughly the same (low) level of human interaction.

I feel bad for anyone who counts listening to Todd & Tyler as their "human interaction" for the day.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Besides, if you have the right music programmed in your iPod, you're never going to be shocked, disgusted or disappointed at what you hear.

Unless, of course, you have TnT podcasts programmed into it...

    ReplyDelete
  37. The stadium doesn't add up, yet a pedestrian bridge to Council Bluffs, where people can go and help out the Iowa economy, does. hmmm, that always makes me scratch my head

With the economy in the crapper as it is right now, I'm willing to bet some of these so called "projects" will be sidelined indefinitely.

Taxes were one of the main reasons I left Omaha and Nebraska. You pay too much to get too little in return. If there was a nicer climate, geography, scenery, etc, maybe I'd be willing to pay so much. The taxes really almost negate the cheap housing costs in Nebraska.

About T n' T... good for them. There are still some in the media business in Omaha who want to move up to bigger markets and not just get stuck like it seems to be the trend there (look at Channel 6 and 7 if you want to know what I mean.)

    ReplyDelete
  38. To those defending Todd and Tyler...honestly, what is so great about them?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I am so proud of Todd and Tyler! I can't start my day without them! I can't imagine what I would do if I didn't start my day with out them!!!

  40. Oh please. Can we go back to endless debating about a new baseball stadium. Because I never get tired of it.

And make sure you include remarks about the noble effort to recall the mayor. That is the grandest of ideas that will make Omaha the cutting edge of American politics.

(Is sarcasm detectable in print? I hope so)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Omaha's on the cutting edge of politics??? Really???

Geez...didn't know politics had fallen THAT far...

  42. TnT = Beavis & Butthead

    ehhh hhhhhh hhhhhh hhhhhh

    ReplyDelete
  43. “an engaging highly customizable syndicated morning show targeting 25-54 year old men."

I'd say less around 25 and closer to 54.

  44. Oh, the horror!

Trav providing sports on a nationally syndication show!

    Oh, the humanity!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Is this Trav fellow the same one who used to do Travia on the CW? Was he the guy that Guerin took over for? That Travia thing was so much fun, those prizes like Zagnut bars were so tasty.

Oh, and please don't crack on Beavis and Butthead by comparing them to Brandt and Mike. That's not fair to B and B.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Maybe if the new ballpark had a wresting complex attached to it, it would generate all kinds of money......

    ReplyDelete
  47. At least the cartoon of these guys attached is a fairly good representation of how fugly these two are!
'Faces made for radio' has rarely been more accurate!

    ReplyDelete
  48. If we could replace their face with Erin Andrews, that would be quite yummy...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Mike and Mike > Todd and Tyler

    ReplyDelete
  50. The cartoon almost makes them look normal. They look bad in that KPTM commercial almost like mutants and what's up with Todd's mouth? Can he talk normal or does he always have to move it to the side like that?
Maybe this real syndication will put some life in their show. I check it out when they have guests in studio or are doing an interesting interview. The show really suffers when it's just them being crude back and forth. Two fiftysomethings talking about bodily functions and masturbating just doesn't do it for me anymore but I'm sure the guys in their 20's like it.

  55. College Boy:

You are so mature! Just like Todd and Tyler...I suppose you think you are so freaking cool because you agree with everything they say.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Neil N. Sucket:

Maturity is relative. I did not know I could be "freaking cool" if I agreed with all their opinions; I will certainly consider this the next time I listen.

In reality I do not blindly share their views. I listen to the Todd and Tyler show, as well a few other talk shows throughout the day, because they are all informative and entertaining. I have learned to keep an open mind and respect others' opinions.

You never explained your hatred of Todd and Tyler, choosing rather to attack my view--what, do the guys not worship your football team?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Matt Perrault is Gay!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Good for them. The show hasn't been the same since syndication the first time but who knows. I wonder how much coin they're getting for this.

I bet Perrault is very, very jealous. They won't even allow his station to stream on the net let alone talk of syndication.

If you're gonna pretend to post as someone, at least spell their name right. Dumbass. :-p

    ReplyDelete
  61. I predict that within a year, Todd & Tyler will make radio what it once was; an empty static-filled box that blurted out long & short beeps to be decyphered by nerds!

    (wait...that's where they're at now...my bad)

    ReplyDelete
  62. 9:15 -- somebody must have urinated on your Pop Tarts this morning. Sheesh...mellow out.

    Oh...and more Erin Andrews.

    ReplyDelete
  66. First..We are gonna get a new stadium...Likes it or not..Its probably all ready done...Also the Pedestrian bridge is being built so people can walk from Iowa To the Qwest Center..Nun of their cars work..Up on blocks in the front yard in Council Bluffs...With the front seat on the porch..Now thats comfort. Then they won't hafta walk across the I480 bridge...Saftey thing

  68. Todd and Mike get it!!!!! They have a show that is engaging and simple in it's purest form. They are good and always will be good. It's conversational and topical... They know what they are doing. I told Todd last fall they were on their way...

    ReplyDelete
  69. .
Q: "What if Todd & Tyler wrestled naked at a gay bar with Perrault and Tool Shed Justice calling the match?"

A: The bar would clear out in less than two seconds. Gay people have much better taste than that. And much, much better eye-candy options.

  70. Here we go again with another T&T rip segment. Jealous because the show has been making progress in leaps & bounds since 1993?

    ReplyDelete
  71. 10:35 - Progress??? What a laugh...the show's content hasn't changed since 1993, nor has its place in the ratings. The only thing that has "progressed" has been their physical age -- although their mental age hasn't moved since they were teenagers.

If you don't get off the computer and get back to work, your days as assistant janitor at Journal Broadcasting Group may be numbered, chump...

  73. NRG Had Better Mornings Then TnT on the Fall Book

    ReplyDelete
  74. OK...after not listeneing to T and T for years, I decided to give them a listen a couple times this past week. Granted it was about 4 or 4:30 am, so they were doing replays from the previous morning. Guess what I heard?

    1. "Uranus" jokes. T and T said "I don't care, Uranus jokes are STILL funny." Uhm, Yeah. *rolls eyes*

    2. Calling people "idiots" if they don't agree with builing a new stadium. Also, they talked about how they "put their jobs on the line" to get the Qwest Center built. Puh-lease.

    3. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Masturbation.

    ReplyDelete
  75. The latest trends only confirm the fall book....Z92 is old and stale just like it's morning show hosts.

    ReplyDelete
  76. You should listen later on in the day. They do new stuff like talk about Travis' back hair and how Nebraska is the ONLY state in the US with rabid football fans. Oops. Guess they were doing that 15 years ago as well.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Dumbest thing T n T ever did was let Donnie Dodge get away did I say that yet. If T n T would have went into syndication with Donnie Dodge as ther producer that show would of been a big time hit in every market.

    ReplyDelete
  83. TnT # 1 in their Demos...Yet Not Number 1 over all..

    ReplyDelete
  84. 10:00 pm ----- oh yeah, CC is "REALLY" jealous at Journal Broadcast Group's performance !!?!?!?!

Out of the top 6 stations, CC has pretty consistently placed 3 or 4 stations there.....NRG on the other hand is a different story.

Oh, by the way, how is Channel 3rd doing in the ratings COSMO?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Is Channel 3 still on the air? I thought they were converting that to a public access channel...

Wayne's World -- party time, excellent...

    ReplyDelete
  86. Matt Perrault and KMTV relate to this article how, exactly?

I can respect your opinion that the show is horrible, Neil, because it's obvious we all have our own tastes. Their radio program's success is undeniable, however.

Discussion of overall ratings are fine, but I doubt the radio show cares much about that statistic. Rather, TnT's rankings in their targeted demographics, and discussions of those stats, would surely carry more weight.
