The plaza area of Rosenblatt Stadium has seen more action in the past few weeks than during the entire Omaha Royals' season.By Media Watch's (conservative) estimate, more than three dozen live shots have originated from Rosenblatt by Omaha's combined four TV stations during the past two months.

Of course the most over-used one is in front of Omaha Police headquarters!

ReplyDeleteSpeaking of live shots on TV news... most of the time it's a waste of money doing a live shot. Most of the time it's, "I'm so and so reporting live... behind me is the location where a car accident occurred earlier today. If we were here 8 hours ago you would see wrecked cars and bodies. But now, they're all gone and it's dark and you can't see anything." Most of the time the live shots are useless not providing the viewer with anything. They're only used to feed the egos of the TV people who can say "We now go LIVE to..." If you can't show me anything in the live shot except a reporter standing outside in the dark, don't go live. Just give me the damn story.

ReplyDeleteI have to agree with 6:48, most live reporting in this town is as relevant to the viewer as seeing a report based in a Deadwood South Dakota saloon today on the Wild Bill Hickock shooting.
