'Unsportsmanlike Conduct' Conducts Super Tuesday Stadium Poll

KOZN (1620 AM) afternoon sports talk show "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" used a poll Tuesday afternoon to gauge listener interest in the debate over renovation of Rosenblatt Stadium and the desire to build a new baseball station in North Downtown Omaha.

The "Super Tuesday" poll offered five choices of action:

-Approve of building a new stadium in NoDo, using public funds as needed to provide for the cost.

- Approve of building a new stadium in NoDo, provided no public dollars are used to fund said stadium.

- Omaha should rebuild Rosenblatt at its current location, provided no public dollars are used to fund the rebuild of the said stadium.

- Omaha should rebuild Rosenblatt at its current location, using public funds as needed to provide for the cost.

- Omaha should neither build a new stadium nor rebuild Rosenblatt.

Results of the non-scientific poll were being shared with listeners throughout Tuesday's program.

The city of Omaha has items of much greater importance (crime, streets, crime, Fahey's combover) than a new stadium.

Omaha voters should remember this when Fahey is up for re-election.

The poll missed the most obvious choice... put Rosenblatt on one of these "wide load" trucks and move the whole thing to "NoDo."

I think we need to quit calling things like "Nodo". The last I checked, it was just a big parking lot.

As a fan of the zoo, moving the stadium closer to downtown would make parking during the College World Series much easier. This is mainly because the CWS would no longer be in Omaha.

NEW REPORTER AT WOWT???

Not related to South O vs. NoDo, but...

Did I spy a new reporter on WOWT? He was reporting from outside the duplex on S 16th St. I think the name they flashed up on the screen was Scott Adkins.

Anyone have any info on him - what station he came from, etc.?

Will there be a wrestling complex built also? If there are two things that go together, it's baseball and wrestling....

Like so many other things that have happened in Omaha, the whole stadium issue is turning out to be a VERY shortsighted topic. Seems like there are only 3 options being given: (1) New Stadium in Nodo, (2) Stay with a refurbished Rosenblatt, or (3) Tear down down Rosenblatt and put something else up there. It's just like the when the Qwest was being discussed and (allegedly) voted on. It was either put it in the old UP yards, or forget it (thanks Hal). Seems like when the opportunity comes up to do something that should be a "10" in this city, the people and the powers that be are willing to settle for "4 or 5". Here's my proposal.

Take a big piece of that land North of the current Qwest, With 80% private money and 20% taxpayer money, build a new 50,000 seat outdoor facility. You could use it for the CWS, bring in major summer outdoor concerts, international soccer tournaments, football games (the state football playoffs come to mind), and on and on and on. It would be the showpiece not just of Omaha, but a hallmark venue hailed as the best between Chicago and Denver.

But alas. We can't do it. It's a no go because someone in this town....wether it's the mayor, MECCA, the city or county....might actually have to start cooperating with each other instead of being concerned with financial and political self interest.

God forbid we do something right for a change.

Put the damn thing in Council Bluffs...Omaha benefits from the fans coming here and we have none of the taxes.

irritated joe -- a lot of what you submitted makes PERFECT sense...and there are two reasons why Fahey and Co. will never go for it:

A) It makes sense

B) They didn't think of it first

Scott Adkins??? Wasn't he the weather guy? Or maybe I'm thinking of the diet guy.

A program listened to by three times as many listeners than that "other" sports program on the dial...

7:40 AM,
WTF

Anonymous said...

5:37 - not a bad idea, excpet where are the $$'s coming from in the private sector? You are talking about a good $100 million or more - and $20 million more in taxes on a place we could only use 7 or 8 months a year would never fly in this city. I like the blatt, the tradition and all that goes with the CWS, but whatever is best, and I am not sure what is best, the CWS must remain here when all is said and done. Maybe this is not that important compared to other issues, but the financial impact on Omaha if we lose the CWS will be far greater than the cost to lock it up for 20 years and beyond. I like the idea of International soccer coming here too!!

Fahey would have been much smarter if he just said "OK, the NCAA has us over a barrel...new stadium or the CWS is outta here"

Instead, he is spouting a story no one believes. Fahey does not have the craven Machiavellian touch of a Hal Daub to pull it off.

Anonymous said...

People want the truth no matter how much it hurts. Fahey should have just been honest with the people of Omaha from the outset.

Jr: with all the billions in this town, raising the money from the private sector should be no problem. I give you the Holland Center. 1 donor. $120 mil. Imagine if you could put a together a coalition of Uncle Warren, and the Ricketts, and the Scotts, etc. Gotta dream big to get big things accomplished.

Matt Perrault is Gay

You should know...you have more intimate knowledge of Matt's preference than anyone else here.

And, quite frankly, we'd just as soon not know...

I have lived in omaha my entire 40years of life. I went to the college world series a few times as a kid and I went to the college world series a couple times as an adult. Frankly i speak for myself and 99% of the people I know when I say I dont care if they take the college world series to another town or not! Most of us couldnt care less! Go ahead and let some other town have the college world series! I know for a fact that the college world series dosnt bring any money into my pocket or anyone else i know. Take it away see if we really care! Or better yet just shut up and leavi it at the Blatt and stop trying to figure up ways to make the rich people richer by building those multi-million dollar stadiums. Am I the only one that thinks these big shots that want the new stadium want it primarily so they can build skyboxes and go sit down in them and think they are hot stuff. Frankly I am already tired of hearing ttoaa & tyler bragg about all the free shows they get to see in the qwest sky boxes i really dont need to hear about how cool they are in the new sky boxes at the new downtown baseball stadium. really i could go without hearing that.

Anonymous said...

2:18 PM...as you know, Todd and Tyler are the sole reason the Qwest Center was built *scoff*

Anonymous said...

Hell...Todd and Tyler are the sole reason that the universe was created. Haven't you heard...?

Anonymous said...

2:18,

Roughly written, but I am in agreement on the sentiment.

Anonymous said...

2:18 - you must be gay. 99% of your friends are as well. big head you have there. always about YOU isn't it? doesn't make you money, then screw it! who cares about the rest of the city! you have a head the size of Matt Perraults! maybe you are Matt Perrault?

Anonymous said...

Didn't Todd and Tyler used to be relevant once??? They certainly aren't funny anymore...

Anonymous said...

you know what would make everyone happy.. ?? allow gambling in Nebraska, and the only way a casino can build is if they build us a ballpark for the CWS next to it that the city owns! win win win for all! i can drink, gamble, and watch baseball all the same week! I LOVE IT! Brandy Peterson, will you marry me?

Anonymous said...

2:47 Yes I will. If you don't mind sharing my boyfriend, Matt, with me. He's dee-lish....in a fascist sort of way.

Anonymous said...

what are T and T doing on a commercial on KPTM-42 for a TV show...I am surprised Journal Broadcast group is allowing that???

Anonymous said...

irritated joe...

A multipurpose stadium is not something the NCAA is interested in as home of the CWS.

That would pretty much eliminate the main reason for any such facility.

Anonymous said...

7:37 You miss the point. Rather than looking at this as strictly a "we must appease the NCAA" issue, it should be looked at and dealt with on a much larger scope. If they want to move thw CWS, fine. But instead of worrying about that, let's progress way beyond that as a community. And the revenue and advertising that a facility like I suggested would bring in, would be beyond anything the NCAA ever dreamed of. In the universal scope of things, expansion is the only positive reaction, especially to a negative situtaion.

Anonymous said...

Journal Is Smart enough to say yes to others promoting a station...Espicially if its free!

Anonymous said...

Irritated.
I understand the scope idea, but the CWS offers guaranteed revenue and exposure every year.
If you're going to invest in something that substantial, you should have, in my opinion, a guaranteed minimum return on your investment.
Supporters of the downtown plan would say the positive, expansive part of this idea is that it would bring more exposure to downtown and attract more investment.

When is KLTQ 101.9 gonna update their website?

PS: Beer is good, and is a food.

Anonymous said...

KLTQ The Big Oh OH Had A live Jock today...Sounds better without em

Anonymous said...

Sounds like we are going to have a Daub v. Fahey cage match soon. Why the heck does the city insist on building on a parking lot they need (and will need even more with the CWS) and not buy up more of the crappy buildings and such around the NoDo area? Spend the extra bucks, clean it up and build the park!

Anonymous said...

...and tax the hell out of the natives to do it...

Heh, heh, heh...

Signed a neighbor in Counciltucky

Anonymous said...

Fahey & crew better watch out, or the Ponca tribe will build a baseball stadium attached to their casino in Carter Lake... and Omaha will miss out on the CWS revenue.

Anonymous said...

Bruning will just sue them for that as well. I guess the Attorney General's office doesn't own an atlas. Cutbacks you know.
